To start from scratch you format the hard drive, to wipe everything just pop your XP disk in to the CD drive and boot from it you may need to adjust the bios to do this when it's loaded from the menu choose install with format have your product key ready or you won't get very far also make sure you have all the drivers for your devices such as video card, printer, sound card and anything else you may have also back everything up you need off your old installation.

You can reinstall your operationg system by putting the installation CD in your computer while it is off and turning it on.
