I'm trying to improve my African-American section at the bookstore I manage, and would like your feedback on which books and authors you like. Thanks for your input!

Thanks, nanlwart! I've just spent half an hour on one site alone... and I like the idea of starting a book club. Very helpful!

These are my favorites: James Baldwin, Gwendolyn Brooks, Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, Rev. Dr. Martn Luther King, Howard Thurman, Octavia Butler, Zora Neale Hurston, Countee Cullen, Rita Dove, Ralph Ellison, Ernest J. Gaines, Lorraine Hansberry, Iylana VanZendt, Charles Richard Johnson, Jamaica Kincaid, Audre Lorde, Toni Morrison, Terry McMillan, Gloria Naylor, Walter Mosley, Frank Yerby, Richard Wright

There are lots of references on the Web. It won't be hard to find them. How about sponsoring an African-American book club? then your patrons can clue you in.

There could be an african subject concerns area, yet no longer a Black romance area... yet I inform you I labored at Barnes and Noble, and for 2 years so it rather is not any idle declare, a lot of black human beings might inquire from me why the place the black authors interior a similar fiction section via fact the 'white' ones (which of direction is stupid to start with via fact that interior the fiction area there are american, eu, asian and Latin American authors). That attitude rather puzzled me.
