need help with a thesis statement?

i need a thesis statement for my essay on the great depression my 1st paragragh is on what caused the depression, 2nd is on its effects and, the 3rd is on the governments response to the depression

Your thesis statement should be the point you're trying to argue. Good thesis statements would be:
"The great depression was caused by __________"
"The great depression was prolonged because ____________"
"The best way for a government to end a depression is by ________"

When you make a thesis statement, you're making a stand. Your whole essay should be devoted to supporting that stand. Also, your entire essay should support *one* thesis... don't try having three separate theses in a three paragraph essay.

Have you written your paper yet? You should construct your thesis statement first, and then build your paper around that. I'm an historian, and I can tell you that you're going at this backasswards. Anyone who tells you otherwise knows nothing about writing a thesis statement.
