The main problem is when the mind thinks it knows, but is mistaken and won't admit it.

Depends on your definition for 'mind' and 'knowing'. Normatively people think 'knowing' and 'minding' are synonym verbs. Is 'mind' in its definition able to reflect its self as self consciousness? If we do not have word for its negative, then the possibility for mind not knowing its self operation is possible, so its a question for proper word usage rather than a quest for essential knowledge which its self may not need language to exist.

"Outline of Hegel's Phenomenology

INTRODUCTION

1. Our ordinary Knowing has before itself only the object which it knows, but does not at first make an object of itself, i.e., of the Knowing. But the whole which is extant in the act of knowing is not the object alone, but also the Ego that knows, and the relation of the Ego and the object to each other, i.e. Consciousness. "

NO! or KNOW!
I know but I don't know.
I suppose if you know you're doing wrong then I would go as far as saying your mind Knows its knowing what it's knowing or what it knows.Of course if there was nothing there in your mind to know then it wouldn't be possible to know of it ,because the knowledge hasn't excisted yet.
Do you know what I'm saying? If you say no then it simply means you don't know even though you said something that sounds like no.
Of course there is something other then just your brain that knows.
Its your nose.

And the Nose Knows!

Does the computer you are using know it is a computer and what it is doing.\

Your brain is nothing more than a very advanced computer and just what it knows is still not revealed to us. In time man will be able to manufacture computers very much like the one between your ears. Then who will run the world??

Yes, the mind knows. It is alive. Try speaking to it, it listens.

The mind will never know anything, but it will learn everything.

Yes, unless you don't pay attention. Most of what the mind does is mindless b/c we don't watch or listen. We can pay attention thereby directing our mind & thoughts. That's called manifesting & it's pretty damn cool.

Perhaps only in a coma would the mind not know it's knowing? or in a state of amnesia? and the absolute 'brain dead' person only knows what is beyond our knowing.

Yes. If you are talking about learning and then understanding what you are learning. Some knowledge is intrinsic and you know without thinking about it. I beleive you have answered your own question.

Of course, meta-cognition (thinking about your thinking) is a staple of philosophy.

You did it when you asked this question.
