I think they are broken people and they don't know how to fix themselves

"most are drunks and junkies" <= now saying that is what is pathetic. a lot of homeless people are actually war veterans that aren't getting the veterans services they deserve it's mean to ridicule people because they may have had a tougher life than most. It's impossible to know everyone's story, but don't throw pity in anyone's direction. People need sympathy and empathy, but certainly not pity. Don't pretend to care when you don't, just imagine what it is like to be them, put your self in their shoes and pray for them. How should you know if they do drugs anyways?

I feel sorry for them. Many are military vets and/or people with mental illness. No matter what led them on the path to homelessness, I just think they must've had such a bad life for them to wind up on the streets.

One helped me in downtown Detroit last week when my car broke down in the worst part of Detroit. He wanted nothing but for me to be safe inside the car while he tried to help and waited with me until a friend came. I am a small white woman and he is a tall black guy. It was the most amazing experience ever.
My opinion is they are greatly misunderstood.

Most are decent enough people that need help and assistance. Pretty much everyone is one paycheck away from being homeless..

I dont know. I always give them a dollar b/c i dont know exactly how they got there.. and if karma is true, then when I am homeless I deserve at least 20 bucks. lol

a lot of them are down on their luck and not homeless by choice....some are very nice...

I dont want to judge them.I give this one man money and make sure he has something warm to wear, and that his belly is full.
