does anyone know how Ty Cobb became fast and how he knew how to run the bases so well

Ty Cobb was naturally fast and he had a great knowledge of the game of baseball. But the main reason that he stole so many bases was because the other players were afraid of him. Cobb used to sharpen his spikes before every game and he would slide into a base with his foot pointed up. With this destracting the fielder, there were many errors and missed tags while he was running the bases.

Ty Cobb may not have been fast as he was aggressive. In reading his biography, he always played under the theory that if you made a defensive player throw you out, as opposed to sitting back and waiting, you could create opportunities for stolen bases or getting runs. Remember, most of Cobb's playing career also took place in the "Dead Ball" era where home runs were not hit often and baserunning was the main way teams would score runs.

I just know his uncle, Hector Cobb, was a racist in the Civil War who said black guys couldn't fight for the confederacy, because then the southerners views would be all lies.
