Oh yes. They should put dresses on them. Most are panty waste. They are there to play. Playing football, occasionally injuries occur. Definitely guard them against cheap shots, like all other players, but let defensive linemen play the game.

Yes as of lately they have become why too protective of the QB pos. The reason for this is because quarterbacks are the single most important position on the field and more often then not they are also the highest paid and the NFL doesn't want their highest paid players getting hurt all the time........In a few years i wouldn't be surprised to see the quarterbacks wearing a red non contact Jersey during actual games that's how bad its getting

Of course they are. However, there's a reason for this: the average/casual fan cares more about offense than defense and the only player that they usually know the name of is the QB. When the players that they know of get hurt, they complain and stop watching the games. Since the overwhelming majority of the NFL's revenues come from TV sources, when the fans aren't watching the product, then the profits are in danger.

Yes. In the Colts & Pats AFC Championship game, a Pats defender just hit the helmet of Manning. The refs of course called roughing the passer. That is no way is roughing the passer. I think that the NFL wants to protect the QB way too much.

Absolutely,

I stopped watching football years ago when they started allowing quarterbacks to ground the ball when outside the pocket. They did that because they didn't want to have thier eight figure players get hurt too often. To me it just made quarterbacks look like pansies. The best solution would have been not to give them eight figures in the first place

Definitely. The last straw wuz when Victor Hobson tackled Tom Brady AS HE WUZ THROWING THE FRIGGIN BALL! It wuz a perfect form tackle, it's what coaches want to see, and he gets flagged for it. That almost cost them the game, and the season. There were a countless number of other calls that were crap this year too.

If anything, they should protect the kickers and punters, because the QB's are at least athletes.

YES!!!

I'm a linebacker(coach could be moving me to free safety for some reason next year... my senior year) and i LOVE to hit people, mainly the QB.

You can't even touch the QB these days without getting charged for a roughing the passer... You could jump at the QB, be in midair about to tackle him, then he releases and the ball is out of his hands then you hit him and you get called when you can't stop yourself in air. They're making the QB position weaker.. starting to want them like kickers or something.

absolutely...you literally cannot touch a quarterback's helmet or its a 15-yard penalty...hit his legs, thats 15 yards(carson palmer rule)...it seems like if you hit him hard at all, it'll be 15 yards...even on accidental contact, the refs are forced to throw the flag by the league

i understand that we need to protect quarterbacks because they are in a somewhat defenseless position, but i think its gone too far

Don't worry about it. I hear the rules committee is throwing out the Palmer Rule and the helmet rule. Starting next season the QBs will wear flags on their hips. However, you can only use one hand to grab a flag and you can only grab at one flag at a time.

Yes. I guess I'm old-school in this respect. Football is a rough sport. If one goes on the field, he should expect to hit and be hit. That's the nature of the game. Those who can't handle it should get off the field.
