Hey for an assignment for my Ethnics and Minority issues class I am making a video about the history of African Americans. I want to interview some of the black students on campus about what it feels like to go to a predominatly white college. What would be some good questions for me to ask in the interview??

Well i think the first answer is the best so far but I did a similar project based in individualism which had to take into account race, ethnicity and culture.

If you try to do race alone you will have major problems because you are trying to categorize someone based on their genetic make-up. You might really be looking for ethnicity which is based what group a person is more comfortable or familiar with or related to.

For example if you go based on race you will meet Africans, West Indians even South Americans and many more that simply are very different ethnically and culturally to African Americans so you will not get a clear answer to any of your questions.

Also I know of two mixed race families (black and white) and one the child looks completely white and the other completely black but society will call them one or the other not both.

Just keep that in mind

Good topic! I'd be interested to know how it turns out. (Though I'm sure you have enough on your plate!)
Here are a few questions:
~FIrst find out what the racial makeup of their high school was. How is the college setting different from high school in terms of rae?
~Do you feel that it's absolutely necessary to hang out with your own race? Or does this campus have an all-inclusinve atmosphere?
~Have you experienced any blatant racism/discrimination/bigoty since you started school? If so, what was the incident?
~Have you experienced any subtle racism/discrimination/bigoty since you started school? If so, what was the incident?
~Do you have a white roommate? Is this the first white person you've ever shared quarters with? Has this experience changed you?

I hope those help and good luck!

ps. Please ignore the ignorance of some of the other posters....

Wow, great topic: -

- Do you feel out of place/misplaced because most of the people here don't look like you?
- Do you feel like you have to prove yourself even more being on a predominatly white college campus?
- Do you feel like you have been treated a certain way because you're black? (Racism, discrimination, weird looks or stares)
- Has your perception of white people changed now being on the campus?
- Do you regret going to a predominatly white college?
- What lessons have you learned or experiences have you gained since being there?
- Have you seen a major cultural difference from white people and black people as you know them?
- Why did you choose a predominantly white college over a HBCU?
- Are you enjoying your college experience and does it have anything to do with color, race, or ethnicity?

As a minority here, do you ever feel misjudged and stereotyped because of your race?
How did you adjust to being an African American student at a predominately White college initially?
Has attending this college changed your perspective on life and people?

You might want to ask your teacher why she/he is deepening racial differences by treating minorities as not part of the general population and forcing students to single out such people.

i think u should find out about the individual first,
like where theyre from,
what they r studying and then go from there.
are there any asians or hispanics at your college?
think about interviewing them too.

would you be happier going to an all black college, i already know he will basicly say yes. He is being force integrated more or less against his will, and that in my opinion is the greatest of all crimes
