I agree, people are too lazy to get up in the mornings and we pay for their food, bills etc. It's not fair. They are perfectly capable of getting and getting a job but they can't be bothered and expect us to pay for their sorry ****.
My mother works hard even though she got out of an operation, my uncle has back problems and relies on the government for help to pay for his children but he still works!!
If he can do it, anyone can!
Oh and... Hey Blunt Trauma, Shut the F up. People who boast they have $$$ obviously have jack sh*t so stop thinking your above everyone else. Seems everyone else here has a job, whats wrong? Can't get a job? Maybe your too dumb or have your priorities wrong. Seems you only have a hobby and thats P&S. I laugh in your face.

it does suck and yes i think they should work .. some places have a high employement rate so what would you do if you were a lazy but who was tring to get a job but never got hired.
I must agree again i don't want to pay for it but with that being said they are going to take the same amount of taxes if they work or not so yeah we are paying them but i'm sure our money goes for a lot of other things!
we could just let them drown in there own sorry butts but then we wouldn't be able to look so good to other places.
I guess over all it's a mix what do you do let your people starve when they can't find a job or do you give them a little bit...
I grew up on welfare so i remember not having much of anything.. but i was spoiled with love... now that i'm older and on my own I still can see how some try to work and get turned down because of there clothing or other appearance.. so i know how difficult it can be to try to look good to get that good job to by better clothing that looks desent. It is a struggle so our little bit that comes out of our paychecks that will come out regaurdless at least it is doing some good! even if we dont see it that way!

Avtually, get your facts straight. what you are really paying for is for them to get job training, because most of them don't have the skills needed. You're also paying for a lot of people who have momentary setbacks due to companies closing, factories moving out of their towns.
we're even talking people with PhDs sometimes who would LOVE to be working, but when you have no money to move to where jobs are and the only jobs just left town, it's hard to get a job. When you have experienced electrical engineers with years of experience competing with teenagers for a job at the local McDonalds, that says there is something worng with the area.
it's a matter of supply and demand - lots of people who need job, yet in a lot of places there aren't jobs to be had. Or they need a requirement like a college degree, something they have no hope of getting. Or,and as happens often with parents of small children, especially single moms and dads - the cost of putting that child into daycare while they work actually costs MORE then they are going to earn. How do you live off of a negative income? You don't. So these people end up staying home until their children are school aged so they can go back into the workplace.(Don't bother with the "they shouldn't have had kids" point of fact, a lot of them are divorced women and men who had kids when they thought their marriage was still fine - and now they're in a serious bind.)
yes, there are SOME that take advantage of the system - but statistically, they are a very small group, but the one talked about the most, making everyone assume that everyone who's ever been on welfare is a lazy money grubber.
However, the system is there for ALL of us, in case of times of emergency when you cannot temporarily get an income in - no matter how much you want to - for a short period of time.
That could be YOU at some point, that could be ME at some point
BTW, there is now a limit of 3 years that you can be on welfare.

I've been in a position where I needed immediate help financially and didn't have a family to mooch off of but I used the support of the government for a few months and then got back up on my feet as quickly as I could.
I think there should be stricter guidelines to welfare and I also wish that women on welfare were required to use some form of birth control but that's never going to happen either.

This question has basically been answered by everyone here. To simply say No one should get welfare is ridiculous. Many women are left stranded with children and no source of income so my personal thought For YEARS has been that there should a series of checks and balances. For example: As many others have said training or school is needed therefore in order to receive benefits PROOF of attending school (trade school etc) should be required. This for say up to two years and then move to the next cycle where you need to report to a job center that will help place you.
" In a perfect world" Right?! LOL just in my opinion

I totally agree, I see people on welfare complaining their butts off that they're "poor" and "can barely get by" and "we need the goverment to support us". NO!! That is NOT that the gonverment is there for!!! The Goverment is there to make sure we are civil people, not all killing each other and stuff, NOT to "support" you. There were not welfare checks back in the days of the Pilgrims, how did THEY get by through harsh winters and blazing summers? They WORKED THEIR BUTTS OFF!!! Abled bodied people must work, or get some kind of job training... or win the lottery. If they don't want to get up at 5:30 everyday and sit at a desk, they don't have to, there are millions of jobs out there.
OUR hard-earned cash is going to a MILLION (and I mean it, go to Wiki and look it up) Government Projects (some aren't even necessary), it is absurd that our money goesto all that AND lazy people who won't work. It's all very sad. Anyway. That's MY opinion on it.
Me hopes me helped! 8D

Oh Goodness, YES! I'm so sick of seeing girls who are perfectly able to work running around spending my hard earned money on new clothes when they don't even feed their kids! This pregnant girl came into the place where I work the other day, and actually said "I'm gonna have another welfare check!" instead of, "I'm having another baby!" They're like fat, lazy leeches, and I'm SO sick and tired of it!
My mother has struggled her entire life to raise three kids, and she has health issues but still can't get welfare for some reason. I fear to think of what will happen when she's actually completely unable to work ! ><

I so agree with you....I am so sick of people living on welfare and not having to do anything..they have one kid after another and all they do is drink, drugs and smoke..have sex and pop out another kid for welfare to take care of...I have a handicapped child but because my hubby makes to much money for him to get SSI then we can't get help for him until he gets 18 and I am having to pay back the government for the little time he did get disability because my husband made to much...But let someone get pregnant and be trash they will support them.

whoa touchy subject here....
if you can work you SHOULD work! what ticks me off is that people who do work but are struggling can't get any help. that's just wrong...those who are working and in the 'middle class' which happens to be the new poverty now.....can't get help and their the ones paying for all these people to not have to work. the system is set up so that it keeps people in poverty instead of helping them rise abore it....
my daughter who is 20 and started nursing school this year couldn't get a dime of pell grant help.....couldn't get a low interest lone cuz our credit is bad...why cuz my hubby plant closed and he was out of work for almost a year (plant closed cuz the work went south of the boarder) my daughter has had a job since she was 13 years old.....that is just not far that her having a job kept her from getting a pell grant....i could go on and on
grrr...this stuff just drives me nuts!
Bronze B...love your comments...I'm one of those peole who have an 'invisable illness' I get NO help can't get disability cuz the hubby makes to much which let me tell ya isn't much......less than 30,000 a year and we raised our 3 kids on less than 15 at times.....i to have a child who is disabled and NO one would really even notice it unless they had spent alot of time with him.....the public school wouldn't even give him the education he deserved and needed...do you some of you have any idea how many of these kids like my son or out there???? how in the world are they supposed to work and be self independent when the schools won't educate them? yep i could still go on and on and on with this subject! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
and yeah my hubby was one who lost his job cuz the plant sent the work "south of the border" stupid clinton and his NAFTA deal!
