i've always wanted to become goth. i've always liked the clothes and the accesories. i would love it if people called me goth. my friend said african americans could become goth, but kinda wierd because goth was originally a caucasian thing and 'cuz u never see them. I got kinda discouraged. i seem so perfect for it especially since i'm quiet and i love the melencholy mood. then things turned around after i search yahoo answers for questions like,"Can Black people be goth?" People said that there a few so that made me feel better. I want to go goth but i'm not sure if i should go emo or punk rocker too. here is a little bit about me:
My name is Grace
I like all kinds of music except country
i play guitar, piano, recorder, and flute
I'm VERY interested in music.
I' want to be a a musician/singer, interior designer, actress, dancer, and a writer
I make friends easily, but not outgoing
I'm an A/B student
i like technology like cell phones, tv, and computers(they keep me busy)
overall, i'm a very optimistic person (so i'm not sure if goth would work, maybe...)
i'm funny too. I love making people happy.
I want tattoos and extra piercings

Ahhh!!! so i want something to stick with.
which is best goth, punk rocker, or emo

I'm hispanic and am a goth. Your race has nothing to do with it. In fact when you have a unique look within the gothic lifestyle people tend to envy you because of your ethnic flair. Personaly I have found the gothic people to be friendlier, and more accepting in general. If I had to chose a genre of rockerdom, i'd either be a goth or metal head. I'm a mixture, but the goths are a bit easier to warm up to.

Don't worry about what others will think of you. When you do, you let them run your show. Find your true center of authenticity such that none will have power over you. If possible, act... rather than reacting. Do anything you'd like to do. Dress anyway you feel comfortable. There are no structured rules. If you like the way being goth is, then you're in! Do whatever makes you feel happy/sexy/wise/good. Those who choose not to feel make a mockery of the life that fills and uplifts them.

Hope that Helps.

Of course you can be goth and African American. I would suggest not trying change just to fit in. NO do not shop exclusively at hot topic, do not start to worship the devil, or bdsm and yes you can wear other clothes rather than black laced corsets and trench coats. Goths smile too and you don't need to sit around all day wishing you were dead either. Goths tend to be open minded and enjoy different and sometimes taboo things. Emos are looked down upon for the most part as a warning. <- do not cut. Cutting is bad and goths do not support such an act.(most) Goth music can get you into fights. Marlyn Manson = not goth. Vampirism= good in books not necessary to be goth. Siouxsie and the banshees, Bauhaus, the Cure, Voltaire and Echo and the bunnymen are goth bands. Many goths also listen to other genres as well. You can be any religion you want as well. Try not to fit yourself into a mold just to be emo, punk or goth because you risk loosing your individuality. There is no set of rules for what a goth is. So you can take what you like from the culture and leave what you do not. Have fun exploring different lifestyles and finding yourself and don't let people discourage you based on your race.

Yes, by all means, become a Goth. All Goths do NOT worship Satan and most Goths have let go of discrimination. Goth is about tolerance and acceptance. That's why I went Goth. I wish everyone else would too, there would be alot less hate in the world.

you sound more emo then goth to me, punk could also be an option goth's usually tend to be caucasian but thats totally up to you, I also am interested in goth clothing and things but I also like girly things so I suggest you trying some different things and see what you like the best. Good luck!!!!

Punk rocker, duh. It's a way of life, a commitment, but it's worth it. It's like you have your own community, your own little group of people who understand you. Unlike emos or goths, punk rockers don't want to kill themselves, cut, or wear black all the time. Punk is a statement, and it says that you're not afraid to be bold and unique and that you will rebel against any rule you're against. Listen to some good punk bands, like The Ramones, The Clash, The Saints, NOFX, Bad Religion, Op Ivy and you'll see what I mean. Rock on.
