I don't think the All-Star game can ever go back to the good ol' days. Players make alot more money now than they did back then so that affects their effort level because they are too worried about getting injured in an unimportant game and missing out on that next big contract. Although there are still some guys who go all out in the game most of them just think of it as a mini-vacation in the middle of the season. The only thing that might make the players play harder would be if each player on the winning team recieved a check for $25,000 or so.

Back then, the All-Star game was almost the highlight game besides the Finals. There was a lot more at stake. There was a lot of hype going into the actual game rather than the festivities. Also, today, the conferences are unevenly matched, as the Top 5 in the West are the Top 5 in the league, which could leads to less hype about the Finals and All-Star game since those will be lopsided for the West.

Iverson #1 Fan is correct. The All Star game isn't competitive because the players are too worried about injuries (Deron Williams was injured in the Rookie Sophomore game). It's not competitive because the players treat it more like a Talent Showcase than a real basketball game. And like Iverson #1 Fan said this is for the fans. The players are just trying to put on the best show they can for the fans.

Why do you want the game to be competitive? It is a game for the best of the best in the league. When players start to play defense then injuries will occur. If injuries occur then they should not play the game in the middle of the NBA season. The NBA wants to market its stars not its teams.

imma break it to you whether you like it or not, your already to old. im trying to make it to the nba and im 14. i wake up at 5 a.m every morning to go practice and after school i come home do my homework, eat dinner, and go play bball for another 3 1/2 hours. i train so hard it hurts badly but it is worth it. i got a shot like kevin durant and ball handling skills like cp3. MY POINT IS, basketball is a passion and if you say you REALLY LOVE BASKETBALL AND WANT TO BE IN THE NBA but you never practice all day, you just want to watch it. Sorry man but its way too late. and you have to go to a D1 University to even get spotted by NBA scouts. HOPE I HELPED.

it would have to have some meaning...players are more concerned with avoiding injury than winning the game because it means nothing...now i'm not saying go baseball's route and determine home court with the result, but you have to find some way to make it meaningful to the players otherwise they will not play hard, they will just look to show off and be flashy
