Tiger wins

It could go either way, but it kind of depends. All tigers and lions are not the same. If you took the biggest and strongest bengal tiger, however, against the biggest and best lion... I have to give the edge to the tiger. It's a tough fight, though. It really could go either way. Both, at their heaviest are around 550 pounds. On the average, however, an average male tiger (490 lbs) usually weighs more than an average male lion (410 lbs). Tigers are known to be a little more cunning and quick, too. Lions hunt in packs, and tigers are more solitary, which means they are usually better at fighting for themselves. Honestly, it could still go either way with the males. That said, a female tiger will kick a female lion's butt more times than not. The female tiger (440 lbs) can weigh 100+ pounds more than a female lion (310 lbs), without losing much speed.

Those are bengal tigers, though. There are some tigers that are smaller (Sumatran tigers) and some tigers that are bigger (Siberian tiger). One Siberian tiger weighed in at 700 lbs!! If you didn't know for sure what you were dealing with, the safe money is usually on the tiger over the lion. But it is not a guaranteed bet.

Lions peak at 400 pounds, tigers at over 1000. I think a tiger would win being that they are solitary animals used to hunting and fighting on their own. Lions hunt as a pack and work together to kill large, strong prey. The tiger would approach with the element of surprise so it would have an advantage from the get go. Also, the tiger has excellent balance and can fight standing on it's hind legs. For an exhaustive discussion see link.

Probably a tiger because lions seem a little bored & tigers move very swiftly & stealthy so probably they'd win.
