You sound somewhat familar?!? Austrians are different , H.

For example, if somebody wants to immigrate to merry ol´ germany he has to pass constitution conformity tests and tricky knowledge and personality tests.
Here you can swim nude. If their religion do not allow to accept this, then they can go to other countries.
If you get an residence permission, all members of an immigrating family have to learn german and take german classes in the evening. When you have to go in elementary school, yes, you have to learn english from 2nd (grade)class on
... and point.

I think this is good.

By the way - not even foreigners should know the language of Shakespeare :)

Looking at the standard of your written English I would say yes. English is becoming the standard in the work place around the world.

So should English speakers who are working in non-English speaking countries for extensive periods of time learn the language of that country?

it depends. If they are staying in America for a while then yes! If they are just visiting for a few days then why bother? But at least try. Then you could have fun talking in English to all your friends from w/e ur from! LOL

Yes, if It meant more oppotunities and a better outlook in life, English is the worlds most used language it can help you perhaps better your career and personally be a more communicative person...

I think they should learn to speak,write and spell in english if they are living in an english speaking country.
