Absolutely. Think about all of the plagues in history. Now think what would have happened if a person could have been on another continent in less than 8 hours.
And every plague in history came from a naturally evolved bacteria. We have much worse things now. Things we have created. Things we have messed with. And things we should have never been exposed to if we'd stayed out of jungles we had no business in (like AIDS and Ebola.)

Anythng is possible. Even tho the local children have all been immunized for chicken pox doesn't mean they won't get them. We had a rash of children in the area with them and one poor little girl got them twice...I know the immunization isn't pure and it is used to at least make the pox lighter and not so sickening. But, nothing in this world is perfect and a pandemic is very possible. We would like to think that we are so modernized in the medical field...Let's pray that one never gets started. Bless.

there hasnt been any huge 'plague' outbreak since the black death days.
aids is highly, highly displayed in the media but is far from being a pandemic.
the bird flu is even a bigger joke for 'pandemic' proportions as it would really only affect the very young and old and is really of zero concern for those with western medical care.
it is stupid uninformed people here on 'philosophy' that have no idea how to do the slightest bit of research to prove their point that makes 'philosophers' appear to be such morons. well, i dont want to be too mean. it is insulting to morons. philosophers are complete f-u-cking stupid d!cks!
read the links to be even remotely educated and informed...rather than spouting uninformed information and opinion.
if you choose NOT to read the links...here is a snippet:
"The Black Death is estimated to have killed between a third and two-thirds of Europe's population."
aids to this date has killed a profoundly insignificant number of people compared to to total world population. and it kills the useless people in the world in horrifically poor nations anyway where they contribute nothing to society. one has to even wonder why they are even here on earth...

THE plague is still around (the one that killed off about 1/3 of Europe) but we have a cure for it.

Well, aside from the possibility that the exact same disease could happen again (nil I think)... If a disease outbreak started killing people left and right, the CDC would come in and the government would quarantine the entire area (see movies such as Outbreak and 28 Days Later) in order to stop the spread of the disease and then go from there....

Absolutely, especially as we force more and more animals out of habitats as we expand our human ways. You'd be surprised...and probably scared to realize how many wild animals carry plague fleas.

do you really believe in current medicines infallibility? I think that until they can cure the cold ( not medicate it) we are just dancing in the path of the next black plague.

Sure. There could be a major jump in insects breeding that could ruin crops. Certain diseases that we don't vaccinate for, could come back (Polio is coming back in India, because people are uneducated about the importance of vaccinating their kids)....things like that.
