I can not get my mail on iMail on my mac. I keep getting this message box: "The server error encountered was: The server "mail.mac.com" refused to allow a connection on port 143." Someone help me please!

OK, the thing here is that .mac email account does not use port 143. The IMAP uses port 995, and the smtp uses port 587.

What I suggest you do is to just delete the account from Mail, and then re-create it. You should not change anything other than your username and password. Mail should take care of the rest for you.

PS: Ditto on the application name. It's Apple Mail, not iMail.

When you say "iMail", do you mean "Mail"? That's the name of the Apple email client application. Or do you mean .Mac, which is the email service that you get when you pay for a .Mac account? Or is it none of these and you are using email account provided by your Internet service provider? Tell us what type of email service you mean. Did it work before and now it doesn't? Did it never work at all? Can you send email to someone but not receive? Can you receive but not send?

Check to be sure you have configured the email application for the type of email service you have. For example, many Internet service providers have P.O.P. type servers. But the Apple .Mac server is IMAP. When you choose to create settings for a .Mac account, you just enter your user name and password and the Mail application automatically makes the server names for you so it is a no-brainer. If you try to override that and type in stuff yourself, you will not get anywhere.
