If you're a beginner than it's good. The really 'top notch' oboe brand is the Loree, which is made in Paris. Oboe originally came from France so it is made to produce the sweetest sound. I started out with a Yamaha and there weren't all the keys or some were placed weird.

This will be my 5th year playing oboe. I'm pretty sure almost any oboe that is wooden is better quality that plastic. Mine is an ancient plastic Renard which is by Fox. Mine works well even though it is 20 yrs old lol. Supposedly plastic Foxes are okay because the brand is good. So, I think it is a general preference between wood and plastic and the prices involved.
