I like basketball, but the foul rules are hard to understand. I have looked for a picture or video site for better explination but to no avail. I understand the basic concepts, but rules like over the back, and time and distance stuff really aren't clear. All of them are not really clear for me truthfully, can anyone help?

Charging and blocking are some of the most controversial foul calls in basketball. Charging is defined as illegal contact by pushing or moving into another player's torso. Blocking is illegal contact which impedes the progress of an opponent. Sometimes, however, it can be difficult to see which player in a charging/blocking situation is at fault. In "charging/blocking situations" the offensive player is charging and the defensive player is blocking (but that is not to say charging is only committed by offensive players and so on.) It is generally accepted that if the defense

was still, or moving sideways or backwards but not forwards, when contact occurred
took a legal guarding position before the contact, that is, one with both feet on the floor
was hit on the torso (as opposed to the arm or leg)
respected the elements of time and distance
then the offensive player was at fault and should be charged with a charging foul.

The elements of time and distance have been respected if the offensive player could have stopped or otherwise avoided contacting the defensive player, including if the defensive player was back-peddling and gradually slowed down, and including when an offensive player turns a “blind” corner and contacts a defensive player having an established position

ok, if u move ur pivot foot, thats a travel, if u make contact with someonewhile they are shoting, that is a persinal foul to u, and a shoting foul to him, if he is not is yhe of shooting, then it is a personal on u, but not a shooting foul, they just take it from out of bounds.backcourt violation is when u take the ball past half court, then u pass it back there or u step back over. an over the back foul is when two people are trying to get a rebound and persoon gets on the others back to get the rebound, im sure u know about 24 second violation, then threres goaltending and offensive goaltending, that if u block the the shot while it is coming down and offensive is if the ball is shot and its headed towared the basket ur teamate cannot touchit unless it bounces of the rim, them u can do a putback jamalama. If ur team is ovr the foul limit which is usually 5 or 6 fouls, the next foul no matter where u are is automatic freethrows, and if u yuorself have 5 fouls ur out. a technical foul is called by the ref for some sort of misconduct, one u get warning, two u are ejected from the game. pretty much it hope u have fun playing.(my favorite sport to) well also u have a three second violation on defense if u are standing in the paint as a defender for more then tree seconds, thats an automatic technicak foul and threre ball, also there is charging, if an offensive player runs into a defender and the defender is in the paint and has set is feet and squared up, it is a charge and there ball, offensive foul is just obious, peace

Well, when you take the ball out of bounds, you have 5 seconds to throw it in. once the ball is in bounds you have 10 seconds to get it past half court. You can also only hold the ball without passing it for 5 seconds. You can only be in the key for 3 seconds per shot. You can only fight for the ball for a max of 5 seconds before the ref [should] call a jump ball. When shooting a free throw, you have only 10 seconds from the time you get the ball from the ref to shoot.
