I've registered and it has helped reduce the number of calls I get dramatically.
Other steps:
1. Avoid drawings for free health club memberships or to win a free car. The kind that are offered at the mall or at fairs. Usually, this is one way for a marketer to get phone numbers and generate leads.
2. Notify your credit card company and bank that you do not want marketing calls and that you do not want your contact information to be shared with other companies.
3. When filling out anything - like a warranty or for online shopping - check the privacy policy. Avoid companies that do not have an opt out option or do not promise to keep your contact information confidential.

Tim has the correct website or you can call 888-382-1222. This is the do not call hot-line. You must call it from the number you are listing as do not call. This will put you on the list for 5 years and will take about 30 days before all the telemarketers have the number. If any call you after that report them

There is a law alot of people do not know about called the "do not call back" law.when a telemarketer calls you ..ask the name of the operator and the company he is working for and the date they called and write it down.then tell him to remove your name from their calling list.If you get another call from this company then write down the name of that employee and the date and remind them that you asked to be removed from the calling list..if it happens a third time then you get the same information again and contact the better business bureau and report it and that company will have to pay you 500. and will get charged i forget the name of the charge they get but it's along the same as harrasment.
