I was a clerk for a federal district court judge. It was a great job -- you got to see lots of law being practiced, help the judge with decisions (by researching and drafting opinions, etc.), got to sit in court, had a real sense that you were making a difference (helping resolve disputes, putting away bad guys, helping innocent guys go free, making sure justice was done), and you didn't have to work 70 hours a week doing it!

I've spoken to quite a few people who've done it and most find it enjoyable, not too hard hours-wise...I think a lot depends on the chemistry between the judge and his/her clerk. I have also heard of instances (rarely) of sexual harassment between an older male judge and a younger female clerk...don't want to scare u but it's something to be aware of.
