A salesman of new cars is confined to a price area. Everyone knows about what a new car should be worth. But used cars can be made to look better than they are. There's much more room for the sleaze factor.

Because in the past before the laws came out to protect buyers of used cars. The salesmen used to lie lie lie..what ever it took to sell the car, and once it was sold if you had problems with the car you could not get any help from these guys.So the stigma of being a used car salesman still lives on today.People just don't trust them and it's going to be a long time before people do.

Its not just USED car salesmen, its all car salesmen. I personally don't really like them because of the pressure they put on you to sell the car. For me, I want to buy that car when I am ready. Plus when I recently bought a car, the dude even lied to me just to try and get the sale. I know not all car salesmen are the same, but it is all of the bad experiences that people have had with them that make it a hated position.

Their job often includes making a "painted turd" sell for as much as possible.
While the marits of a NEW car are usually obvious and without guile, a USED car may be worth far less than is obvious, and may in fact be damaged internally.
In decades past, used car lots would make repairs to cars not to fix the car, but to fix the SIGNS of the damage. Cracked block? Weld-putty and silver paint! Leaky radiator? Leave it empty and fill the tank!
So often, a used car salesman would be selling something they knew to be useless...and when you're selling a used car, you're not selling to some rich schmuck who can afford to be ripped off...you're selling most commonly to people who live paycheck to paycheck...and a good deal (from the lot's perspective) may destroy a family's livelihood by getting them into a rustbucket that will soon fall apart (and one the family will entrust their lives and jobs to)
While few used car salesmen WANT to destroy lives, the few "bad apples" that do gain a reputation for the rest. One "family destroyed" story will be told again and again, and overcome any niceness in the industry.
SO unfortunately, a few bad apples have ruined your job's reputation.
Cheers!

Life is all a sale.... People buy cars from people they like, trust, and believe. The fact that some people hate used car salesmen is a perception, don't let thier perception effect your reality.

It's not salemen but bad salesmen, one's that would sell you a bad product, be too persistant to close the sale, use intimidation, etc. Nobody notices a good salesman cause you just buy from them and they make you feel like a human being not a commission.
Hope that helps!

Because they lie, they sell crap cars, they'll tell you anything to get your name on the contract, bad suits, that annoying smile, get a real job, and the fact that most of them don't have a high school education?
Used cars' have the lowest customer satisfaction of any product on the market. And buying a used car from a lot is like throwing money away.
I mean you buy the car from gramma for like 1k and resell it for 7k?! Come on man!

used car salesmen, will do and say any thing to sell a car.
They pop off about interior, gadgets that the factory installed,, and what ever other flashy traits it has.
In other words, thay use big words to puff up the mental image, they just painted of the car.
They also know all about the cars problems, but refrain to speak of them, because thay want rid if it.
