When they become unruly or disorderly

2007-02-21 15:02:16 · answer #1 · answered by Mike J 5 · 1 0

'Crowd' and 'mob' both suggest sizable collections of people.... Like 'throng,' 'crowd' can suggest congestion but is even more emphatic about disorder within the group.... The word, however, is used informally to describe large audiences of any kind, even the most orderly.....

'Mob,' by contrast, stresses disorder in a crowd possessed by unruly or angry emotions and implies the erupting of potential violence or a state of riot.... As a mere hyperbole, the word can be used informally for any great number.

the difference is ... Who Rules?

a crowd will listen to an individual or small group (music band; teacher; recognised leader) that guide it to a common goal or experience

a mob turns against the individual or small group that is in authority. Any mob leaders can deny blame for the chaos because he was in no position of responsibility.
