my question is are there any websites that you can use to do a background check to see if a used car dealership is legit i have seen so many people get burnt.

Try contacting your local chamber of commerce. If they're part of that, then they're reputable. If it's an actual DEALERSHIP they're likely alright. I work at a Ford dealership and I know that we couldn't get away with very much shady stuff. It's the smaller car sales places you have to worry about.
