Not for a while! Yes, I am a suffering Leaf fan as well!
If it's any consolation, we expected them to be dead last this year and the youngsters on the team have surprised....
As for cheering for Gilmour, I can't do it... sorry... but he was up for Statutory Rape charges in St Louis (hhis baby-sitter, I hear)... I can't cheer for people who get involved in that sort of stuff...
Wendel was definitely a favourite! Roberts is definitely a favourite! Sundin is definitely a favourite (I think that Sundin is the best hockey player the Leafs have had in my life... sorry Sittler), Lanny McDonald... defintely a favourite... Dave "Tiger" Williams... definitely a favourite!
Right now, though, I must say it's Sundin... he's gifted and he's been around for a long time...
I also cheer for Wellwood... shame he is on the IR... that guy has incredible vision on the ice and can pass the puck as well as any Leaf during my lifetime!
As for my early years, I really can't remember guys like Ellis and Shack... but they sure did make an impression on people only 4 or 5 years older than me...

When they have a single owner who wants to win, NOT the Ontario Teachers' Pension owning a good majority of the Leafs with a bunch of other people having ZERO say in how the organization should be run. Come on, TEACHERS running an NHL team? They can hardly teach in this province!
Oh, and a new GM...that's another piece of the puzzle.
And...my favourite Leaf of all time has to be Bryan Berard. Damn near lost an eye and STILL returned to play. That's just determination.

I don't know, but it won't be this year. As for my favorite Leaf...without a doubt, it has to be Doug Gilmour for being the face of that organization for so long. All I can say is that I'm lucky to be close enough to the border to pick up CBC and it seemed every weekend, the Leafs would be featured on Hockey Night in Canada.
As for the Leafs winning the Cup, they've got potential, but they'll need a top-tier goaltender to go to the next level. Nothing against Andrew Raycroff, but I don't think he's the man to take them that far. (And if someone says Cujo, then I oughta smack them cause he didn't do a thing with my Red Wings in the playoffs...)

They wont till their GM starts to wake up.
They have Sundin, but unfortunately, he's becoming a has been.
Raycroft is a terrible goalie, and all the other players play like skaters in the minor league. When the GM realizes how poor the Leafs are, and starts making trades, then maybe the Leafs willl actually make the playoffs.
BTW, I dont really like the Leafs alot, mainly because of the Leaf fans I met. Anyway, my favorite player is Sundin, but too bad he's not himself anymore.

Are you serious? The Leafs are a joke and the Sabres own the division and the Eastern Conference. We are winning with 6 statrters out. Wait until the playoffs when you will be watching the Sabres fulliy healthy and grab the cup. Oh by the way you will be deciding what off season moves the Leafs are going to pursue while the Sabres beat Nashville for the Cup! Bye Bye Pathetic Leafs Fan! Favorite Leaf if I even think of one, would be Darryl Sittler

When they:
1) draft and develop good players with SKILL
+2) they stop trading away draft picks and prospects for over-the-hill old guys who used to be good players
+3) when they (and their fans) stop having the stupid mentality that players with a little skill but lots of so called grit and can fight and hit but can't do anything else are more valuable than players who can skate, have finesse and can SCORE!
+4) when they start recognizing that there are players born outside of Toronto, Ontario or Canada that can actually play hockey and help the team!
As for favorite Leaf: Alexander Mogilny, too bad he had too many injuries.
But that is EXACTLY what I am talking about that is wrong with the leafs, good skillful players don't get recognized and are not valued while players like Clark and Domi and Tucker are always fan favorites because they can hit and fight ??? please!
Please note that none of these players were stars when they played on any other teams besides the Leafs!

when they get rid of all the business men running the team and bring in some real hockey people. From Ferguson Jr. up the management are full of guys who would rather rake in money than bring home a cup. As for all time leafs I would say Gary Roberts and Tomas Kaberle
