NOT AS MUCH AS THE MIDDLE. IT'S ABOUT A 5 TO 1 RATIO

Outside Linebackers in most schemes are the most blitzed personel on the defense. They are also used for outside contain, man coverage of backs and tight ends, and covering the flats (the part of the field 5 yards off the ball on the outside). An ideal outside linebacker is big, long (especially arms) fast, smart, and agile. I think you might be too big to play outside linebacker in high school. But if you can shed some body fat and work on your speed you might have a chance. Again alot of this depends on the coach's defensive scheme. Most high school coaches in my state run a 5-2 which eliminates the outside linbacker position totally in exchange for more linemen. I think you could play defensive end or tackle in tihs kind of formation but depending on how well you play on your feet you could play one of the linebacker positions. talk to the coach and find out his defensive scheme. ask him what he thinks. Coaches really respect kids who have the balls to talk football with them even if they aren't starters or whatever.. Take it from me, 2 year starter, 1 state championships, 2 state superbowls, won an award for academics and football..

honestly it depends on a lot of things:what formation the defense is running? 3-4 will blitz the outside more often. What the offensive strenghts are? Inside running- MLB. Outside or Option-OLB. Passing w/ mobile QB- OLB with contain responsibilities. Passing w/o mobile QB- MLB most of the time.

Coaches prefer heat up the middle, but collapsing the pocket is always a good thing as well. If you're a good pass rusher, your coach will find a way for you to blitz more often, well, at least if he's a good coach.

in most High schools yes, in my high schools we played in a 3-4 scheme, and that scheme had the OLBs blitz alot. from what i know, alot of high schools play in a 3-4 type scheme or a variation of it.

they however have the OLBs rush up the middle, instead of hte outside. (quicker way to the QB)

you are going to end up playing DL no matter what, there are defensive ends in the NFL who are that weight...but yes, OLBs probably get blitzed more than any other defensive position(besides the line of course, otherwise it wouldn't be a blitz)

I know that the Ravens do, but they do alot of crazy stuff...But they were the #1 NFL defense last year. So maybe it is a good idea....who knows lol
