ok what you want to do is.... when it asks you if you want to update say NO!!! then when the screen pops up with the preferences(the one with the bar at the bottom telling you how full your ipod is) check the manual update box... this will preserve the music on your ipod already and allow you to use your ipod on several computers.

First reset your ipod by pressing and holding the center and menu buttons for 6 seconds, then while it is rebooting press and hold the play and center button to enable the ipod as a disk. Then plug it into the computer, open my computer and open the removable disk which has the name you gave you ipod. Click tools up the top, then folder options, then view and then show hidden files and folders. Next open the iPod control folder and copy it to the computer by dragging and dropping it to the dekstop. Next unplug the ipod and open itunes. Go to edit>prefernces>advanced and make sure that keep itunes folder organised and copy files to the itunes music folder are ticked. Next minimise itunes and open up the ipod control folder, inside it open up all the random folders and select all the music folders within it and drag them into itunes. When you are done plug your ipod back in and let the computer erase and sync and then it is all transefered.

Go to my computer. Click on tools at the top. Click folder options. Click View. under hidden files and folders, click show hidden files and folders. Then plug in the ipod. Don't let itunes update or sync your ipod. Go to my computer. Double click on the ipod icon. Then just open the folder with all your music in there and copy and paste it to your hard drive. Hope this helps. The same thing happened to me.

there rather isn't any rapid way.. that's what that's; basically use a working laptop or laptop... yet constantly you would be wanting to eject it in the previous you pull it out bc the music on your iPod will delete (i found out the problematical way). now and back the iPod freezes up too, so be careful. additionally, dont play music to loud the two.. in the different case the battery will run down rapid.. i'm hoping i helped =)

Oh man this happened to me a few times before. I'm sorry to say that the only thing you'll be able to move on is to erase your ipod. I've checked everywhere and people seem to come to the same decision. I feel for you chica.
