I was watching the weather channel whilst on holiday in the Dom Rep. We'd hit Ernesto on the way in, and Florence on the way out, but in between I was tracking the paths of other tropical storms and hurricanes. Typically enough, Hurricane Florence fell right into our flight path.
But, I always saw the Local on the 8's. I even timed it to see if it was a regular update every 8 minutes, but it wasn't that. So please, what does it mean? What is it??
Thanx x

on the 8's is every ten minutes. at :08,:18,:28,:38,:48,:58. That means every time there is a second digit of 8 then they will have local on the 8's. They also do this with many radio or tv stations. For example, on my morning news they have traffic and weather on the 1's . so every ten minutes they do traffic and weather.

The local 8's are on every minute that has an eight after it, so every ten minutes (9:08, 9:18, 9:28...). This tells you about your local forecast, and they've even updated it to your local traffic report. But they might come on a little late, like at 9:09 or something depending on how your clock is set.

i'll take the rap for that.
as a local cable operator, the weather channel (a sat. receiver, cpu and weather station all combined) brings you the local (where ever the weather station is located, mine's located at the head-end site.) weather; wind direction/speed, temperature/humidity and visibility reports, along with forcasts and doppler radar of the local area, (in near real time) on the 8's. (08, 18, 28, 38,48, 58) because this system relies on the cpu, during power outages it crashes and some times wont auto recover so well.

Yeah, i've got had the comparable project. The weekend seems great on Monday's forecast yet whilst it hits Wednesday or Thursday, the forecast demands rain. mom nature is unpredictable quite some instances. You by no skill quite comprehend what is going to take place.
