Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.

Do you have antivirus and antispyware installed? If not, you need to get these things installed and use them. In today's world, you cannot be simplistic enough to believe you can get on the internet, send and receive email, and not get something into your computer that will cause anything from an annoyance to completely disrupting it. All these things are free, so there is no excuse for not having them.

SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware can both be downloaded safely from download.com:

The suggestions by the people above me are well and good and you should follow them. Do all your antispyware scans in Safe Mode then clean your hard drive up. Make sure you update them first before you scan.

You also need to install:
SpywareBlaster
A good HOSTS file (research on it at AUMHA site)
IE-Spyad

Make sure you have all your Windows CRITICAL UPDATES (only).

Install AVG if you do not have an antivirus.
