I wouldn't say 'disappointed', because I really enjoyed E2 and E3 (sorry, but E1 sucked). The problem, in my opinion, is that the new trilogy was really made for the die-hard SW fans, whereas the original trilogy was made for a general movie-going audience.

Also, the first trilogy was pretty cut and dry -- good vs evil. The new trilogy introduced a lot of politics that people may not have been able to identify with, or care about.

Another thing that hurt the new trilogy more than the old is that, for all of Lucas' brilliance in creating new worlds, alien races, weaponry and technology...*He. Can't. Write. Dialog*. Some of the script in all three movies were horrible, and much of it turned well-known and respected actors into high school amateurs. I still don't know what it is about a SW script that turns good thespians into bad ones.

Star Wars had become such a huge part of popular culture by the time Lucas announced a prequel trilogy, that it was almost destined to fail. In some ways, Star Wars was a victim of its own success. The best analogy I could give is this : if all four of the Beatles were all still alive, and announced after 25 years apart that they would reunite and record an album, then NOTHING they could do would live up to their prior legacy. Everyone would listen, and say, "Yeah, it was OK, but I still prefer Abbey Road". That's basically what happened with the new trilogy.

I was in college when this whole thing started with the original Star Wars movie. You had to be there to realize what a jolt out of the blue it was. First, it was word of mouth. Then news stories came on reporting these huge lines of people seeing this movie again and again. And this at a time when sci-fi films were NOT considered the hottest thing in the world to see. I'm sorry for those of you who didn't get to see 4-6 when they first came out.

So 1-3? I'm not just an old codger who thinks everything was better back in the day. Really, I was quite excited. I had primed my own kids by now by watching 4-6 on video numerous times.

Our disappointment couldn't have been greater. First, all the pre-movie hype was sickening. The marketing of paraphernalia (toys, etc.) was especially annoying. (As if they weren't going to make enough money out of these films.) The star lineup looked good. But then all Samuel Jackson did was rub his chin and nod his head knowingly. The lines he had to say were embarrassing. I'm surprised he didn't demand a rewrite. At one point, doesn't he actually say, in preparing for a fight, "It's time to party!"? (Even as I write this I'm remembering his face on pop cans.) So much of the dialog was excruciatingly painful. The storyline was predictable and dull. The special effects didn't enhance the film; they overwhelmed it.

After that, as a family we just decided that the original trilogy was the real Star Wars and this other stuff was something else. I honestly can't remember if we saw episode 2. I know we didn't even think about seeing episode 3.

Episodes 1-3 looked much better than episodes 4-6, but looks aren't everything. 4-6 are classic! Episodes 1-3 did answer a couple of mysteries in 4-6 though... May the force be with you!

No, it's not just you. Eps 4-6 were classic. 1-3 sucked monkeynuts. During episode 1 I kept praying for Jar Jar Binks to get killed, but it just never happened. Episode 2 had poor continuity. Episode 3 was the best of the second trilogy, but it was still poorly directed. Nothing compares to the original trilogy.

1-3 really dissapointed me. But out of all of them 2 really sucked! I'm glad they did the movies so that they could explain everything that happened before, but in other ways i think they could have done them a lot better. So i'd have to agree that 1-3 were kind of stupid but 4-6 were amazing.

I thought 1-3 was only better because it looked better but story line me and all my friends think 4-6 is better.

I agree with the Queen fan above me. I am a pretty big fan, but still the movies, even with the CGI just didnt have the 'umph' (as my sister would put it) as the original ones. 1-3 did explain alot, but still, it just wasnt the same charm. As far as I see it, it was mostly eye candy. As my friend Dan put it: "Special Effects are not special anymore after using them in every scean!"

I am sooooooo glad i am not the only one to think this. for the record, i think it was hayden christenson who ruined it for me. I wrote a whole page essay as a movie review about it, and that was my main point. I now have to explain to everyone that i still like star wars, just not the new ones.

In my ideas, the only "genuine" megastar Wars videos are the unique and Empire strikes decrease back. I refuse to call them "episodes" or "chapters". by utilising the time return Of The Jedi got here out Lucas had shown he became slightly incompetent and retreated from the spotlight by way of fact he feared being chanced on by way of fact the fraud he became. How, you ask? Lucas made a drastic mistake. one twelve months in the previous "return Of The Jedi" got here out Lucas made the very incontrovertible fact that the subsequent installment of the saga became going to be noted as "Revenge of the Jedi." The teaser posters have been printed and released in the previous Lucas found out...whoops! Jedi's do no longer seek for revenge. a real Jedi would not even want to combat, they only safeguard. How can the guy who invented the lore interior the 1st place, the guy who became held as much as be the ordinary for all this make this style of blatant mistake? Then, of direction, there is the certainty that he offered into the entire "muppet" factor, did no longer stand his floor a pair of planet of wookies, rather choosing youngster-friendly Ewoks and then destroying the finished mythology of Luke and Leia that became so (now) incestuously uncomplicated interior the unique. He claimed from day one he had 9 installments and then it at as quickly as became obvious he became making this up as he went alongside. After "Empire", all of it died. not one of the "prequels" got here close to to shooting what they did in those first 2 videos. communicate approximately ruining a legacy.
