I doubt it. Americans are into freedom, "soul mates", the idea of "falling in love" and finding someone to "make them happy:. With the divorce rate over 50%, I doubt many understand much about marriage- it's all about the wedding.

No it wouldn't. Americans don't have the same moral system or modesty that Indians or Arabs do. Indians and Arabs don't date, they don't have sex before marriage, and they value honor and family above all things. We care for the collective dignity and welfare of our family as a whole, not just for ourselves. We respect our parents to the upmost degree. You don't see Nanny 911 in India do you? We don't normally have situations like that. There is a strict code we follow, and we flourish morally because of it. Americans have a different mentality. That's why the divorce rate is so high.

It has nothing to do with "thinking" for yourself as some responders have put it. We do think for ourselves. We think that our parents have our best interest in mind. We think that they know what they're doing. We can say yes or no to a prospect. It's nothing different.

No, simply because most teenagers, young adults, in this country don't have a very high regard for their parents opinions, especially when it comes to running their lives, and that is all an arranged marriage is.

The big reason why it wouldn't work! Is that in this day & age people have more freedom & choices then ever before! For during the medieval age up to the 1700's or 1800's it was still semi popular! Nowadays it's more about love then who your parents would like to see ya hitch up to! The major benefits that may come from it! Every one has to follow their heart to the one that would be their true love & happiness!

The world has definitly changed over time. Arranged marriges in the Islamic religion has become more accepting. My friend who is Muslim says that he has an arranged marrige but if he finds someone else that he likes, and if his parents approved, they could marry.

But for this to happen in America? I don't think so. We have evolved to beome independent people who can make their own decisions. We can't let our parents choose for us everything, especially something as important as marrige. You want it to be special, and you want to marry the person that you love and will want to spend the rest of your life with. I think that we are better off finding someone on our own.

Nope!
American men and women are used to making their own choices. They value their independence and freedom. They don't feel a false obligation to please their family with whom they marry or date.

Sure, there are some family issues concerning who marries who, but for the most part this is a country and no way would myself of other people make such an important decision for us.

Absolutely not. Not only would anybody here ever accept it, but it would not even work for us because we don't think that way.
