my thought is that it only becomes a gateway drug because people are forced to purchase it illegally on the black market from the same individuals who sell cocaine, acid, meth, heroin, etc. should the government legalize and control the sale of marijuana, the exposure to other drugs would be minimalized.

answer no. 1: is that your perception? you're obviously ignorant and closed minded. I am neither a hippie or a loser. I have held my current job for more than 12 years. no, it is not burger flipping. I do rather well. why should the government tell me what I can & cannot do in the privacy of my own home?

It's probably not really a gateway drug. It has that reputation because every drug user begins with a particular drug. Marijuana is the most common drug and often the most affortable. If a pot smoker goes on to hard drug, they blame it on the use of marijuana. A better study would be the number of people who have smaoked pot and have never used any other drug.

"...All the scumbags.."
woah there..
I can take and debate weed pro and against, its not to hard to do it either way.
I say, if you want to do it, and it doesnt effect you or others negatively, then do it. If you can hold down a good job(not fast food), live in a nice house(the nice part of town) and drive a reliable car then toke up.
Once it begins to effect your life bad, just like anything else(porn, alholol, vicodin, any "drug") then you have a problem.

Side note:
I think all the judging/preaching about how everyone else is not living up to your standards should be eliminated. Live a positive lifestyle thats the key.

Same reason alcohol can be considered a gateway drug. Most kids drink first before trying other drugs.

Alcohol is the gateway drug.

I have met plenty of people in my life that have never tried marijuana that had serious alcohol and cocaine issues.

Because the majority of people who smoke marijuana wind up abusing other drugs. Hence the name...

Clearly, you aren't the father of a child, Do you know how many little boys and girls who's fathers aren't playing ball or a board game with them, because daddy has to "go chill out?!"

Marijuana ruins countless lives every day.
