Is it legal for a psychiatrist to tell this to a suicidal teenager? The point of seeing a psychiatrist would be to get well - not have every shred of hope torn from underneath you. Come on - it's Kervorkian ethics. Are there not any guidelines for psychiatrists on what they can tell people? How is a philosophy of hopelessness going to heal anybody?

what's unethical is not always illegal. The shrink is just a loser.

If a teen walks into a psychiatrists office and says "i am suicidal" they doctor will ask them what they mean specifically by that statement? Do they mean "right now?". If so they will immediately be placed into a treatment facility, that is the law. A psychiatrist will not tell a patient they are destined to commit suicide... of course not... that is not a factual statement but a scientific one....and i could not see any context in which that would be used.

Get another doctor and maybe report that one to the medical bureau, before some poor soul believes him...he is not a psychic!!! And not getting paid to be a psychic..
