My school just went to school uniforms and many of the students do not enjoy them. I have mixed feelings for them, I wouldn't quite say I love them but they are not that bad any how. Here are some pro's and con's about them based on what I have observed.
PRO's
School Uniforms make it so that students do not feel left out because they do not have "designer" clothing when their friends do. Secondly, students do not have to decide what to wear everyday or if the clothes match or not. Also, school uniforms do not cost as much as designer clothing.
CON's
Students who do not enjoy the uniforms seem to not wear them and when the students dont wear the proper uniform then the teachers are expected to disipline the students. This takes away from the curricullum and depending on the school in which you go to or even where the school is this may happen ALOT! Some students believe that these uniforms are not "stylish" even though they really are not supposed to be this can be a downside to some students and parents.
So are school uniforms good or bad, I say that it really does not matter. School uniforms make no difference to me in school. You can just decide what you believe based on what I have told you and what some the other people on Yahoo Answers tells you.

I think they can be a good thing. The problem is that at most schools the uniform is really just specific colors, my daughter's previous school the uniform was navy or khaki pants and white, nave or maroon collared shirts. The students can buy any brand they want. I feel one of the advantages of wearing uniforms is that poor kids don't get picked on for not having the name brands, but in most schools with uniforms that is being helped.

I think school uniforms are both a good idea and a bad idea....
its bad because-
there could be a future fashion designer in the school and by making him/her wear a uniform you could be stifling their creativity...also it becomes harder to express yourself if everyone looks the same...a final reason is people might start comparing how people look in those uniforms'
they are good because students whose families dont have as much money as other students families wont feel bad because they arent wearing the latest fashions

Me personally, I think that uniforms are just stupid. Like others have already said, it strips a person of their individually and their inner-person. And that's bullsh*t that people don't get picked on, because at my school, we still have people wearing high-waters, wearing dirty white t-shirts , wearing the same uniforms over and over. It's just ridiculous that we have to wear them. Also, uniforms shirts and pants in my area cost about the same as street clothes. (Jeans,T-shirts,Hoodies,etc.). I HATE UNIFORMS!!!!!!!

Both!
Good~you dont have to worry about what to wear. No more school shopping. Popular ppl wouldnt have a good fashion reason to make fun of unpopular ppl
Bad~dont get to X-press urself. uniforms are norm ugly! lol

they are advantageous because it limits discrimination and cliques, two things that really seperate a school population. Students might complain about losing their freedom and individuality but there are ways to alter what one wears to school to seperate them from others (or they can 'accsessorize with purses or shoes). It lets a family save on money because they do not need as many clothes and promotes basing an opinion on someones actions than how they look. Should help with perceptions from the teacher as well

not good, they strip a person of there individuality at a place they are required to go to.. Now people often, espically ones for uniforms at school, say to us that when you get a job you will more than likely have to have a uniform or strict dress code. (if the job is worth a ****) Now my response to that is YOU HAD A CHOICE TO TAKE THAT JOB OR NOT, SO YOU CAN TAKE THAT REASONING AND SHOVE IT IN YEA PIE HOLE.

well , from my point of view they are both good and bad . Bad because It doesn't let students express themselves . Good so girls don't were short shirts or skirts , and guys or boys don't wear saggy pants , they school can just have no uniforms with rules like no sagging or no short shirts or shorts or skirts .

I agree with them. Too many people in school are picked on for not staying up with fashion. I think this would alleviate some of this. It won't totally destroy the cliques that run schools, but it will make it harder to single someone out because fo what they are wearing.

I think that they are good for self esteem- coz u dont need to worry about wearing something cool... and you dont need to worry about feeling fat (but still wearing tight ccolthes coz there cool) and uniforms dont show much body shape but if theyre uncomfortable theyre lame (ps i luv releint k like u- thyere my fave band)
