Well I am a sophmore in High School, and I want to go out for football next year. I have all summer to train, and would like to work hard at this. But I dont know what position to play. In 8th grader I played on the line, but I was never big enough to do that. I can run fairly fast andam big enough to hit someone pretty hard. I am about 6 feet tall and weight around 170 pounds. What should I play? And for whatever position you suggest, what should I work on (ie speed, receiving, passing, blocking)?

Linebacker or Saftey, If you're faster than you are big, then I would try saftey. However, if you're bigger than you are faster, I would go for linebacker. You definately want to start lifting either way! Heavy arms, shoulders, legs, and core muscles. Also try and gain some wieght. Linebackers, such as Mike Singletary, weigh about 230. He was also six foot flat. Brian Urlacher weighs 250 something, but he's 6-4. He also can run a 40 in 4.59. Speed isn't crucial but the guys who really make it, can run fairly fast for their size. That's really one of the keys. Take it from me, I know I'm a girl, but I know what I'm talking about. I love linebackers.
However, if you want to be on offence, I might suggest Tight End.
REGARDLESS, gain some muscle weight!
You might also find out which players you like in that position. The Bears have a great defense. Their linebackers are infamous and rated the best overall! It would be good for you to look at their stats.

Well it depends on your high school, do you have a lot of talent, size, speed, etc. I would say if you like to hit play safety or if you want to play offense and have experience on the line play tight end. Either way if you 6'0" 170 you need to gain some weight, being that your only a sophmore this will happen naturally but you need to work out a lot and I would begin a high protein diet. If you're playing safety you don't need to gain much maybe ten pounds, if you're playing tight end maybe 20-25 pounds.

You are stupid. I'm 6' and 170 pounds.. Ok how much can you bench? How much can you squat? How big is you school? Is your high school good at football? How fast can you run a 40? How fast can you run a shuttle (5-10-5). Can you even catch a ball? Can you throw a ball? How high can you jump?Do you play any other sports?come on kid if you want the truth we need more information then that. I was 5'9" 175 in high school and was a WR/DB/QB on a shitty team in a small school. We cant make a proper judgement on just height and weight

From your description there...I would say Outside Linebacker or Defensive End. Work on both speed and strength and make sure you work on getting a quick jump off the ball. Maybe shuttle runs or cone drills will help you with that. Have the coaches help you with form tackling and don't forget the D-line coach to help you with moves (i.e. swim, rip, club, etc.). Good luck and have fun!

I would suggest you try safety. You seem tall enough and your weight would be about right for a safety. Work on your speed and leg strength. Try squats, deadlifts, and powercleans as your power moves, do each one on a different day. Like monday do squats, wednesday do deadlifts, and friday do powercleans. go for as much weight as possible and low reps at first. then as you get stronger work on doing more reps and a little less wieght. A good lifting program is "bigger faster stronger" try looking it up on the internet. The most important thing is to get stronger, eat lots of protien, lift, and do sprints, double sessions will give you endurance but you need to do sprints to improve your speed.

I suggest

-free/strong safety
these guyz are usually tall that can swat balls away from the recievers and be able to push the recieiver out of bounds or tackle him rele hard to force a fumble

-wide reciever
needs to be able to "break away" from the safety to make a big play
also must have good hands and good speed
theses guyz are usually tall too

hope this all helps
go out and make the team(preferably varsity)

Being 6 foot you should try strong safety or free safety. If you're fast enough try cornerback. Work on your speed, agility, acceleration, tackling, and coverage skills. Also try to add 15-20 pounds of muslce. Good luck!

i would say you sound like a pretty good defensive end or outside linebacker to me...you would have to work on shedding blocks for LB or developing a move with which you can get to the QB as a DE, as well as learning just to wrap up on ballcarriers rather than just hitting hard

offense - tightend
defenve - defensive end or free safety

each position you need to work on speed, hiting, and you need to work on your catching, yes even for defensive end. Lift weights and jog a lot to gain strength and gain endurance. Practice with friends on working to watch the ball and get to the ball on defense and receiving.

Good luck and have fun

With your height, and if you really are fast, I would think you could play wide receiver or defensive back, depending on whether you would rather play offense or defense...Playing wide receiver would be of course assuming you can catch the ball...
