Here's an abstract from a study on the effect of estrogen-testosterone therapy versus estrogen-alone therapy in HRT in postmenopausal and oophorectomized (sp?) women.

Is there anybody out there who still likens testosterone to a "poison," or a "storm?"

EDIT:
So, Baba Yaga, were you planning on answering the question? (and they call ME defensive...sheesh!)

EDIT:
Okay B.Y., you got me - stone age men did not drive, so there's no way insurance companies could have been overcharging based on sexist policy. I apologize.

Geez, in all your henhouse cacophony, the only thing I was able to discern was that you believe insurance companies have good reason to charge men higher rates than their female counterparts. Now, you do realize, that in wording this question in as general terms as possible (i.e., not re: driving habits, eating habits or in your case, ranting habits), I was looking for a general answer, which you still seem afraid to give. Instead you hide behind yet another survey, and don't really contribute anything at all. Shame. It's starting to hurt your credibility. I hope you put something more original than calling men cranks just because they disagree with you.

Shame.

No, she wasn't.

Er... maybe testosterone COULD be bad in excessive amounts; but the studies (most double-blind and placebo, so there is little possibility of bias in them) seem to give credence to the fact that it is obviously a useful regulatory/supplementary chemical. Just because a few researchers call testosterone poisoning a "storm" doesn't mean they are credible researchers.

Why do you think more men kill themselves than women as teenagers?

More women ATTEMPT suicide.

Men just have the balls to carry it out instead of trying to cut their wrists and blaming everybody but themselves; get your facts straight, Baba Yaga.

Oh yeah, better put my disclaimer on.

DISCLAIMER: I am referring to general trends as noted by such sources as Wikipedia and others you can check out if you REALLY want to learn about suicide statistics; both successes AND attempts. That means I do NOT believe all women are suicidal or the like. What person in their right mind would believe that I am? Nobody is REALLY that simple minded, folks.

It's unfortunate that car insurance is this way. You bring up a steroetype. And that is why car insurance is starting to change. This is how things used to be believed. Times have definitely changed regarding young drives. There are still a lot of aggressive drving men, but the girls are catching up. Women have been driving much more aggressive than they in the past years.

Actually a lot of drivers that I have seen zigzagging through the highways and speeding around other cars have been women. I have seen so many drivers that have tailgated other cars and me were women/girls. There's a young girl I met a couple of summers ago who just flew over the country roads, while I was trying to keep up. Theses were country roads that she knows very well so she had no problem, whereas, I have never driven on the narrow, country roads with a lot of hills. It was also night, and there are a ton of deer in the area. She actually almost hit a deer. I was going like 80mphs, so she was going close to 100mph.

My sister has many tickets for speeding and she has a habit of tailgating. It was especially hard for her to adjust when she cam back home in our small city for the holidays, because the was used to driving aggressively, and NY city brought out even more of her aggressive driving. So, it looks like your argument is pretty weak Baba yaga.

Of course there are. And there always will be, too, because the view of testosterone is one of destructive stupidity in our media. And since those that absorb this media are themselves stupid (if not always destructively), I somehow doubt the truth will surface anytime soon.

Good on you for spreading the word, though. Hopefully a few people are less ignorant now.

What Baba Yaga manhater fails to realize is, that men do cause more incidents, but they drive more and the number of incidents caused by men put in relation with the miles absolved is inferior to those caused by women, so if anything men are more reliabel drivers than women and the higher charges for men only are sexist, but I guess since men are beeing charged its okay isnt it Baba Yaga manhater ?

No, testosterone is a natural chemical / hormone synthesized by the human body.

HERE IS MY ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION. Seeing that you are having obvious difficulty understanding I will provide you with a short and a long version. Keep re-reading until you finally 'get it'. Be persistent:

1. If this measurable, naturally occuring phenomena did NOT exist then insurance companies would NOT be able to get away with charging young male drivers more for car insurance.

2. The UNABRIDGED VERSION IS BELOW:
You are alluding to the following, no doubt. As I have already mentioned, car insurance rates for young male drivers is higher than for young female drivers. Why? BECAUSE THEY CAUSE MORE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS:

'Between ages 15 and 24 years, men are four to five times more likely to die than women. This time frame coincides with the onset of puberty and an increase in reckless and violent behavior in males. Researchers refer to it as a "testosterone storm." Most deaths in this male group come from motor vehicle accidents, followed by homicide, suicide, cancer, and drownings. After age 24, the difference between male and female mortality narrows..."

EDIT: SORRY GUYS BUT SO MUCH FOR YOUR ARGUMENT:
"There is extensive evidence to show that men, and young men in particular, tend to be more aggressive than women (in all known cultures) and they express aggression in a direct, rather than indirect, manner. This has a very significant impact on driving – encouraging more competitive and hostile behaviour with consequent higher probabilities of crashing.

• Levels of deviant (rule-breaking) behaviour are significantly higher in men than in women. This manifests itself in a greater frequency of violation of traffic regulations, including speed limits, traffic controls, drink-driving, etc. 'Men and women exhibit different driving behaviours that affect their attitudes, safety and insurance risk. Many factors underpin these differences, including neurochemical structures and hormonal processes shaped by evolution, and global socialisation practices. Each plays a part in explaining why men and women drivers have very different records in relation to accidents and insurance claims.

Men also exhibit, on average, higher levels of sensation-seeking and risk- taking in a wide variety of settings. The basis for this well-established sex difference has a hormonal and neurochemical basis – it is not simply a product of socialisation or experience.

• The differences between the sexes in terms of their risk-proneness while driving can be explained, at least in part, using an evolutionary psychology perspective. This proposes that much of neural circuitry of the human brain evolved to meet the requirements of societies and cultures very different from our own – that of the hunter gatherer – that existed for over 99% of
our evolution as a species. Our 21st century skulls contain essentially ‘stone- age’ brains, and the brains of men are women are different in certain crucial respects.

• Stone-age man did not drive. But the legacy of his hunting, aggressive and risk-taking past – qualities that enabled him to survive and mate, thereby passing on his genes to future generations – are still evident in the way in which he typically drives his car.

Differences between men end women in terms of their driving behaviour and accident rates have long been demonstrated in the UK, mainland Europe, the United States, Australia and in many other countries. In all studies and analyses, without exception, men have been shown to have a higher rate of crashes than women. This gender difference is most marked in the population under the age of 25 years...

The scale of this difference between the sexes is very substantial. Chipman et al (1992), for example, show that men have double the number of crashes (per 1,000 drivers) than women. Waller et al (2001) also note that in addition to having a higher number of crashes, men incur their first crash earlier in their driving career...Norris et al (2000) and others attribute this greater level of crash- proneness to higher driving speeds among men and less regard for traffic laws...

This increased level of risk among young men is not confined to driving. The WHO (1999) and (2002) report that men are also more likely to die from falls, drowning, poisoning and a range of other events. Only in the case of deaths in fires are women slightly more over-represented than men. The report also notes that injury and fatality rates are higher among men for every type of road injury ...In the United States male drivers are much more likely than females to be injured or killed in road accidents – they account for 71% of all driver fatalities. This figure has remained virtually constant since 1975.

NOW PAY CLOSE ATTENTION, CASSIUS:
To some extent, of course, these differences may be partially explained by the greater exposure of males to potential accidents due to the relatively higher number of licensed drivers and greater annual mileages. If such factors were at work, however, we would expect a sharp difference between the level of male driver injuries and fatalities and those resulting from being a pedestrian, passenger, cyclist etc. Such a difference is not evident, and the risk-proneness of men while driving is directly reflective of their risk in a wide range of other contexts. This is demonstrated in Figure 2 below, derivInsurance Institute for Highway Safety report, 2001."

AND 'ROBINSON':
"RED HERRING". We are discussing the behaviors of heathy young adults: not teens with depressive disorders - and other mental illness. You want to play statistician? Then you should know that UNCONTROLLED VARIABLES confound the results and render your findings null and void. GET IT? GOT IT? GOOD - and thank-you for your concern.

ENOUGH NOW. YOU GUYS ARE STILL WHINING. IT'S JUST INCREDIBLE. Where do you find the energy to crank so? JUST TAKE IT LIKE MEN (FOR ONCE).

EDIT:
"sexist policy" , Ya it's always 'sexist' when it doesn't go your way. Now you are suggesting that Evolutionary Psychology is 'sexist'; go away, crank, you have no leg to stand on; you will never be satisfied and are therefore doomed to a life of misery - and 'crankery'.
