Mix an equal part of laundry powder with an equal part of white vinegar. Add a little hot water and rub it into the stain. Then, wipe the stain with a clean, damp sponge or cloth. Repeat if necessary. Usually this gets the job done well and it's inexpensive too.

TRY 1001 which i personally think is better than vanish - regardless of the gimmick advertising of vanish - failing that the besssssssst product ever - although a little more expensive is DUO-P dry clean powder (off ebay or a vacuum centre) its absolutley fab - or you could use a rug dr hired from your local diy centre

you know that your own hair shampoo cleans carpet just as good as any carpet shampoo, try using this , just rub the stain with a little, leave for a few min´s then rinse with a sponge and tepid water it work´s. many people here have tried my suggeston. Also it depends on which type of stains you have but try this first then come back and tell us if it work

never been that impressed with the vanish stuff, especially on something that's got a lot of stains on it. best thing u can do is hire a carpet washing machine from a local DIY centre. B&Q usually have them. cost about £20 to hire it for a weekend, but u could get your money's worth out of it by doing any other carpets in your house. (i'm in north yorkshire....... eee by gum !!! lol)

Wales, the home of my teenage hearthrob Tom Jones. Try some Resolve carpet cleaner if you have it over there. There is one kind that is strictly for removing spots. It takes a little time but it works well.
