No, I don't think so. Breaking treaties and international laws just makes the US less trustworthy and makes people hate us even more, which escalates the chances of real terrorism. Of course, I guess I'm happy we're still a superpower, but I don't think that the end justifies the means.

No. "Superpower" is an outdated concept. The last time this title was important was when the Soviet Union was in existence. When the Soviet 'superpower' was defeated by its own bloated war machine and loss of relevance to even the power figures in their country, the way to defeat any so-called 'superpower' became clear: engage them in a war of attrition, preferably somewhere in the middle east.

We in the U. S. have a choice. We can voluntarily step down from that dubious pedestal by making sound fiscal and societal decisions or be forcibly pushed down, backwards, with a dollar no longer tied to petroleum, eventual withdrawal of the excessive credit we currently use, and lowered real estate values.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

If a soldier can kill another human being, the US will do anything to overtake another, and in our case to stay a superpower. We already do it. We want to regulate the world's oil. Three reasons for that are (1) the automotive industry, (2) oil companies and (3) the military. Big oil and the military profit from each other. You can't fly a fighter jet on electrical energy. All these war machines need oil. And we know the oil won't last. So the US wants to take care of oil regulation before it starts to run out. No country in the world wants to be left defenseless because they're out of gas. We would be dead in the water.

Honestly, it seems we are doing everything within our power to withdraw from our present #1 status. There are no business incentives as there are in countries such as Dubai where there is literally NO TAX for business. Our laws make it nearly impossible to perform business, the only thing keeping us at such a high tier is the fact that we are a global leader in the finance and arms industries. We provide the majority of the weapons used to arm our enemies.

Yes...we should do everything in our power to stay on top but no...no breaking international laws and treaties.

In my opinion, US is already doing whatever it takes to stay a superpower (Iraq, Afghanistan, now Iran, etc). They seem to not care what the UN was saying about the Iraq situation and seems to me that they're going to keep doing what they please.

Russia is getting more and more dangerous but I think it will all be OK. Too many big countries have big weapons for anyone to do anything. Small countries can get picked on, and I think they will continue to be...

Do you mean do what is necessary to remain the bully on the block, then make laws to give appearance of legitimacy?
Does being a superpower mean "My way or no way"?

Are you completely mad?????
What do they do to you there in the US?
Brain-damage you?
Can't you think of anything other than being a super power?
So WHAT if your country IS a superpower?
What do YOU get out of it?
Do you see your life standards rising?
Do you see poverty or crime decreasing?
Cause I don't.

No. Certainly not.

Why can't you see, the ones that get killed in smaller countries,
are just as valuable a human life as any other life?

Do you never have friends or families from other countries? When will all this stop?
