No, converters will not achieve this. All HD networks use an encrypted algorithm to transmit. You need a box capable of receiving those encrypted transmissions, and if your television is provided by DirecTV, you will need their HD box. I'd suggest tacking on Tivo if you don't already have it; highly worth it, though you might have to eat the cost of the box. Good luck!

You need to have the DirectTV HD receiver to access High Definition channels. Unless you have the Tivo Series 3 HD machine, your recordings will not be in HD.

HD television by Freeview won't ensue earlier 2009, probable later. the alternative would be made with the aid of Ofcom no longer the television makers or the BBC. The replace to HDTV would be no longer be unexpected. the only subject it rather is shown so a techniques is that there'll be a phased replace to terrestrial HD over a significant style of years (probable an prolonged time) via fact the government won't choose everybody's 3 year previous television instruments and Freeview boxes to grow to be out of date too promptly. No set ideal Freeview container presently on the marketplace would have the capacity to receiving HDTV, you will could purchase a clean one. i do no longer understand whether present day television's with equipped in digital tuners could have the means to guard HDTV. The makers at the instant are not saying. it rather is probable via fact the coolest bandwidth and compression equipment for use for terrestrial HDTV isn't yet printed. additionally, it would halt revenues of present day television instruments. you're able to be advantageous that as quickly via fact the technical specification is available then boxes and instruments able to dealing with it rather is going to be on the cabinets quickly afterwards - at a quite severe fee for the 1st year or so. interior the intervening time you're caught with Sky HD, Virgin and Blu-ray/HD DVD. All of which fee exhorbitant top classification costs for their HD provider. it rather is powerful to computer screen yet there is likewise little or no unique HD fabric to justify this fee (extra £10/month for Sky + the time-honored subscription). lots for HD repeats.
