Hi Katielynn...
well the Buddhist monks are top notch at this harmony and balance stuff......
one of the things they abide by is total simplicity they worry not.. .....
"don't worry about tomorrow... just live for the now"
"take care of the minutes and the hours will take care of themself"
I don't think I have ever seen a monk with a crabbit face.. they all smile a lot and seem genuinely happy...
all I know for sure in my own life... is that happiness breeds more happiness...
laugh and the world laughs with you....but cry and you cry alone..
......is another saying...
happiness draws people towards you like a magnet.. but sadness has the opposite effect...
.
we all have to face sad anxious times in life.. but you will come through the otherside I do promise
.......... your happiness will be greater for having experienced sadness....
Just say to yourself... .. I AM GOING TO BE HAPPY NOW.. TODAY... THIS VERY MINUTE..... .... happiness and harmony are there for the taking.. they are not unattainable feelings..
........
also... read some of the very funny answers on these pages and you will end up rolling around the floor with the giggles...
I do swear these pages are wonderful...

Good on you to come to this awareness. A big YES to your belief that harmony and balance, not things and success, bring happiness.

I'm convinced that we can't get there without meditation. Any beginning in meditation is helpful if you've never meditated, even five minutes a day.... though hopefully you'll gradually build up to 1/2 an hour or more. Meditation gives the mind intervals of stillness.

There's meditation of the kind practised by yogis. You can visit http://www.srf-yogananda.org and follow the links to theirs.

There's Buddhist meditation. A good and quite easy structure for learning to meditate is provided by the Kadampas and they are widespread in both the UK and the US. Visit http://www.kadampa.org/english/centers/index.php to find your nearest place where they teach their General Program/me.

There's also such a thing as Christian meditation. And there is meditation with no specific spiritual allegiance. For ta good example of one of these, visit http://www.schoolofmeditation.org/index.html

Apart from meditation, you may well find that being loving really helps. When we give others of the love in our hearts, we expand, and we are acting in harmony with the basic true nature of the world. There was a wise man called Shantideva (his very name, or rather title, means "spirit of inner peace") said that all the happiness in the world comes from wanting happiness for others. Best recommended reading for you may be Jampolsky's book "Love is letting go of fear".

Katie Lynn ... Oh, how right you are. I'm getting on in my years and I find myself much less tolerant of rude and stupid behavior. However, these kinds of people are sometimes unavoidable. I see them in my neighborhood with people littering, I see it driving to work, and it even happens in my workplace, sometimes.

I try to control my surroundings. That means picking and choosing my friends wisely. If things are getting out of line or unpleasant, I excuse myself and try again another day. If it becomes a habit with a particular person, I avoid them.

I also take pleasure in the things/hobbies I can do alone or in the privacy and comfort of my home. That seems like the only way, sometimes.

Good luck, Katie Lynn. It was a great question.

Practice by imagining how that would feel and what that would mean to you. Try to see in your mind how your stress free, happy and harmonious life looks. The more you practice this image the more it will become true. But you need to practice it.
