One email. It can sit in their mailbox until they're ready to get in touch.
If something is up... circumstances may change (i.e. if I'm worried about them... I would send email, text, IM and finally call then leave it).
I worry about 'harassing' people I think... so maybe I don't do enough. They usually know I'm happy to hear from them when they get back from whatever, for however long... so it's all good.

Three days ago I argued with my best friend and she has blocked me on msn, does not send any messages and doesn`t give me any phone calls.
So if a person and especially a friend doesn`t call you for a long time, ask yourself "when was the last time they called you? what was the last thing you talked about? what did he/she say before saying goodbye? was the atmosphere heavy or unpleasant?" But on the other hand, many times they don`t have time or maybe something very serious happened or they moved!
Maybe you could include the fact that he or she simply does not want any contact with you for reasons that it is up to you to think about and discover!

I hadn't heard from a friend of mine after I got out of the military. I called the last base I knew he was at and found out he was transferred to Japan. I was put through there and was told by his wife that he was actually shipped out to Afghanistan for six months! So I got his email and we've been back in touch since. So it was nice to be able to get back in touch with an old friend!

I'm one of those rare females that hates talking on the phone. I avoid it as much as I can get away with it. I'd rather email.
