sharpsburg. i think i remember learning that generally the north named the battles after a nearby natural landmark/body of water (ie. antietam creek) and the south named them after the neaby town/city (ie. sharpsburg. other examples would be the battle of bull run (a nearby tributary) which in the south was called the battle of manassas (nearest town)
