My apartment complex has a limited number of handicap parking spots. There is a car that has a "Disabled Veteran" license plate. Now, I was thought to believe that a "veteran" was someone who had been in the military or something similar. The driver of the car is about a 20-year-old girl. Maybe she is handicap, but I wouldn't think so when she lives on the third floor only accessible by taking the stairs, especially wearing heels and running up and down the stairs. I highly doubt she is a disabled veteran. Is she abusing the "Disabled Veteran" license plate and should I try to report her to the apartment complex management?

Most handicapped parking is issued to a specific person. The permit is connected to an actual driver's license. If this person is using a car owned by the disabled person, then she is abusing the privilege and should be reported. Call the local police and they will check ownership to see if she is indeed "the handicapped party." If she isn't, she will be cited for parking illegally in a handicapped parking spot, and the person who owns the car could actually lose that privilege as well. Bottom line is she is probably abusing the permit and needs to be reported. The space is designated for people who truly have a handicap. The complex probably has only a few spots available and if she is occupying one of them, that is one less for someone who really needs it. Hope that helps a little.

Every thing "Barry M" said is correct except your apartment complex is private property, and unless they have given your local police department permission to enforce your States /. Provinces motor vehicle laws on their property you would have to convince the apartment management to involve the police. But by all means she is abusing the handicapped plates, and must be made to stop.

Report it to the Department of Motor Vehicles or whatever agency issues license plates in your state.

I think you should try to talk to her first...then to management...maybe she is using a family members license plate...however if she is a disabled veteran I would feel awful for confronting her....sorry, I am not much help

You need to report her/the vehicle to your local law authority. Let them deal with issue.
