Hi! I'm dual enrolled in high school and a local community college. My professor gave me this prompt, but I don't know where to start...can someone help me understand it and maybe help me out with a couple of good articles to start off with?

"In another ten or twenty years, the political configuration of countries may be vastly different from today. Many believe that both China and India are emerging global super-powers whose policies will determine the nature of human life on the planet. Because of their large populations, they will be forced to find ecological solutions to the problems humans have created. Do a little reading on both countries and write 2 full typewritten pages double-spaced giving your opinions on what you learned."

Okay so basically what they are saying is:

India and China are two countries whose power in this world are growing. they are going to take over the world.

when they do this, they will also have the responsiblity for the world and it's problems...

find articles on the web that may show how they have gained power and what they will be able to control once they totally take over and stuff like that. good luck. im a freshmen in high school, so dont count on this too much.

So, start by Googling India and China. read about the political situation in each country. Note the industry and agriculture in each country and see how they are alike and how different from a) each other, and b) USA and Western Europe.

Secondly, look at both countries for ecological problems that may have today and make a prediction about 15 years from now - how will pollution and other problems be in that time?

See how the policies (that you read about in the first part of my suggestions) are making the country ready for growth or not ready.

Shouldn't be too hard. That is a start for you.

Your prof sounds full of the old overpopulation myth. It's been around since the 60s (when he probably graduated), but it IS a myth. China's population is not really growing much, but it is getting to be disproportionately male. If you want to read about this issue, read some of Phil Longman's articles at the website below. Your prof also sounds like an enviro-weenie crybaby. EVERY civilization has to find solutions to its own problems sooner or later (duh)(not just the environmental ones). BTW, India will never be a REAL superpower until they extirpate their crummy religion that tells their people to accept the lot their born w/ or you'll piss off God. That being said, there are tons of great articles about Indians & Chinese individuals/companies who are kicking butt & taking names in the global economy. Try Fortune or Forbes magazines to find some. I wish I could remember the specific ones, but one had to do w/the steel industry & one w/hotels & casinos. Almost any library has them.

Basically he is saying, that because India and China are populations are sky rocketing due to the fact that the birth rate,is higher then the death rate, they will be requiring more things. For example,China is quickly becoming modernized, compared to what it has been in resent years, they will soon be requiring vasts amounts of oil to support electricity, factories, cars, etc.
Not hard to do.
