A tampon might be better for sports so you don't leak all over the place, especially if you are wearing those white capris. Not only is that embarrasing, but how will you get the stain off? But I must warn you, putting a tampon in for the first time may be painful.

A pad is a strip of cotteny stuff that sticks to the crotch of your panties and absorbs the blood as it drips out. A tampon is a cylinder-shaped piece of the same material that actually is inserted inside using either a cardboard or plastic applicator. There is a string that hangs outside for removal.
There are pros and cons to each. Tampons are less messy and don't smell as much, but when using them you risk getting TSS, which can be fatal. Also for some people it's just uncomfortable. But for sports and dancing and things like that, tampons tend to be a better bet.
Before you actually get your first period, talk to your doctor about what would work best for you. Or just do what I did, experiment. Use one, then the next month use the other. You'll develop a preference.

for sports you should use a tampon, pads could get very uncomfortable.... me personally i like tampons better because you are less worried about leaks..... of course there are health precautions for both, with a tampon you could get TSS and you have a higher risk of yeast infection, as for with a pad you are more prone to any kind of vaginal infection, even bladder infection. It took me some time to get used to my period, so i used pads every day because i couldnt get a tampon in..... it takes some time getting used to a tampon........ and don't worry your period is a blessing, and a step further into woman hood.

The difference is a pad is more comfortable for most girls at first, but for softball or sports its better to where an tampoon because pads can leak during sports. A tampoon goes into your vagina and a pad, you stick on your underwear. Hope this helps!!!
