OMG!!! I, too, am a teenage girl who is obsessed with the Beatles!!! I've never known anyone with that same interest!!! They don't listen to that old music anymore because they grew up with the new stuff. I didn't. My dad has almost every album made in the 1950's-1980's. I used to listen to that crap called new music, but then one day I accidentally deleted them all off my playlist. So, I just chose my dad's playlist labeled "Beatles" and added it to my MP3. The next day, I added ALL the Beatles songs on my MP3 player. I know what you mean. I try talking to my friends about the Beatles and they tell me I'm weird and wacko because I listen to the old bands. THANK YOU for posting this question. Now I know I'm not the only "wacko" out there. :) I also know that I'm not the only teenage girl that has good taste in music!!!

I don't know, but judging from the other answers there are at least *some* people around our age that listen to this music.. I'm 16 & some my favorite artists are from the 60's and 70's. The Doors, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, etc...I like newer music as well but I love older music. Classic rock (from the 60s, 70s, 80s) is probably my favorite.
I think alot of people don't listen to older music because, well, it's old. lol... but like the radio stations that most teens listen to play the newest music, MTV plays the newest music (and VERY FEW videos from the 90s), etc... It's a matter of exposure. The teens that do get a chance to listen to the older music generally like it (for example, I always listen to my mom's CDs of music from the 80s).
And I can sympathize with you about talking to your friends and getting weird looks, lol. So for my best friend's birthday, I made a CD for her.. half newer music that we both love, half older music that I love & that she's hardly ever heard. She likes the music as much as I do now (we had pretty similar music tastes to begin with)... so now I can talk to her, at least, about how crazy some of Jim Morrison's lyrics are. =)

They don't know what they are missing. They are so use to rap and good old doo wop sounds strange to them. I remember watching the Beatles and others when they were on Ed Sullivan in the 60's. I grew my kids up on it so they like it more than others but still prefer the new stuff
I love the Righteous Brothers and many others
I have over 70 songs saved on this site

and over 50 on this one

hi because they are just stupid
and everything now is so commercial
they play the same songs over and over for 100 times a day
is just sad parents should teach kids about it
and is a matter of fashion i think they just wanna dress like Christina and Britney
they don't want to be like Lisa Lisa or Cher
lol

They do. My daughter (15) and my son (11) both listen to my CDs, LP and cassette tapes more then anything else.
They go "shopping" in to my collection every so often. My old LPs are framed on their bedroom walls.
Her BF listens only to classic rock.

as a fellow classic rock fan..i have found that our generation is just not into the old.
yesterday at work this girl asked me if bob dylan and neil young were new artists?!
i am the biggest neil young fan so i was offended but bob dylan is a little more popular and she didn't know who he was either!

like some of the others said..its just not what they grew up on. if you were brought into the 90s then youre naturally gonna listen to 90s music. im a 90s child and i love the 90s music i think its my favorite decade. in a way that is kinda old "classic" music because its the stuff i heard when i was a kid.
i dont like alot of the modern stuff nowadays (although some of it i do like) but rap is more crap than ever (hehe..rap..crap)
my mom sometimes played Oldies in the car when i was a kid..and i loved it also then. as i grew older i drifted away and found it dull and dorky...but this was i guess just a phase i was going through. because after a while i didnt mind it so much.
i first got into the Beatles through (some might call it obsessive) interest/passion for Drake Bell. his biggest influence is the Beatles..and he got me into the old stuff. its like im thinking well this guy is awesome..what he likes must be good too. so i took a listen to some Beatles songs. i think i didnt really like them b4 because i wasnt really paying attention to them. i also have gotten a bit into the Beach Boys and The Who (more of Drakes influences) but dont think im forcing myself to like them. what im saying is loving Drake has expanded my curiousity for music that was long forgotten (i had forgotten what i was missing because of the distraction of the modern stuff).
this non-appreciation for anything not here and now is a result of commercialization.
do you know why Drake Bell is soo good? because he is classic..one of the few modern artists that is. i find it admirable that his music has the Beatles feel but is totally original. i say he is the Beatles with a modern and newfound sound. subconciously when i first got into him..even then i probly loved his music for displaying familiarity yet originality at the same time.
oh and ive always loved Elvis...there has never been a time where i didnt like him.
im not really into Buddy Holly or many of the others though. but ive never heard much of them and alot of times a song has to relate to me in order for me to enjoy it. if its not fun and its meaningless (no meaning for me) what is the point in listening to it? but heartache is a recent issue ive been having and there was a song i heard that sounded very old..but i enjoyed it. it went something like when youre in love with someone who isnt in love with you....eh i cant remember the rest
so many songs about heartache are gonna be great for me...some of them happen to be pretty old.
its not the time or the age that makes a song great...its the content and whether it has meaning for me. that is why i like some old and some modern.
dont feel bad that some people dont listen to the old. like i said its just not what they grew up on. alot of them might not have even take the time to listen to the old stuff. if they can find someone they admire who loves old music then they probly will get into the old. but if they dont, dont worry about it. love what you love and dont worry about what others like.
i kinda feel special that im one of the few 90s children that like some old music too..while the rest of the world is following the latest trends all the time i take time to listen to the classics too. it adds to originality i think to like the classic stuff. similar to how i was with loving Drake Bell...mainly people who were part of the DBMB was really into him when i first started taking an interest. i mean alot of people liked him still but now its more a vast group...DBMB was like a club and loving Drake was part of the club...exclusive interest. basically i could be counted as one of the original fans of Drake (before he got on MTV and such..)
you could think of your appreciation for old music as exclusive interest...like your own special club.
