LS and GS are Lexus models (LS means Luxury Sedan, and I'm not sure about GS).
Acura's alphabet-soup system is as follows (some of the names originally meant something, but nowadays almost nobody would think of them that way -- the RL is just the RL, not the Road Luxury):
NSX (sports car, now discontinued). Stood for New Sportscar eXperimental.
RL (flagship midsize sedan). Stands for Road Luxury.
CL (coupe model of TL, now discontinued). Stood for Coupe Luxury.
TL (entry-lux midsize sedan). Stands for Touring Luxury.
RSX (sport compact coupe, now discontinued). No meaning.
TSX (pre-lux compact/midsize sedan). No meaning.
CSX (premium sub/compact sedan, Canada only, replaced EL). No meaning.
MDX medium crossover vehicle. No meaning.
RDX compact crossover vehicle. No meaning.
Type-R is Honda/Acura's high-performance brand.
The alphanumeric system that Acura helped pioneer (although the German marques have long used similar systems) is actually a marketing strategy. In times past, one might have said "What do you drive?" and get an answer like "I drive an Eldorado," and that would be that. Carmakers, especially newer arrivals like Acura, figured that if they used some arcane combination of letters (and numbers, in some cases), would lead to people to repeat the brand name, thus reinforcing "Acura" as a maker of luxury cars in people's minds through word-of-mouth. Example:
"What do you drive?"
"I drive a TL."
"What's that?"
"It's an Acura."
It's a strange system, but it's taken the industry by storm.
So that's how the system works. Today, the RL is a competitor to the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Cadillac STS, Infiniti M35, Jaguar S-Type, Lexus GS 350, Lincoln LS/MKS, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Saab 9-5, and Volvo S80.
The TL competes with models like the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Cadillac CTS, Infiniti G35, Jaguar X-Type, Lexus ES 350, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Saab 9-5, and Volvo S60.
The TSX is almost a niche of its own, competing against entry-lux sports sedans like the entry-level Audis and BMW 325, Lexus IS 250, and Volvo S40.
The crossovers compete against similarly-sized vehicles.

Acura (like Lincoln) has gone to naming their vehicles with letters only to avoid translation problems when selling their cars in other countries. You can research trim levels and all easily at kbb.com.

After the R, it's the GS-R, after that it's the GS, then the LS, and finally the RS.
I haven't really ever known what the acronyms for the different model types mean, except the R (Racer). But between the RS thru GS it's just the luxury amenities. GS-R better engine. (not hand built though.)

Those letters don't mean anything. They just made them up to name their models. Lexus I know has those letters stand for something, but I don't think Acura does. The Type R just means that it's a sportier version.

The Type-R is the 195hp top of the line sports coupe with the tightest suspension. The GS-R is the next coming in at 170hp. The GS and LS and RS have the same 140hp motors and only differ in interior options like power windows, locks, leather and so forth. Only the Type-R and GS-R have VTEC.

They mean nothing. They are just un-creative letters. The 1st answer is WORNG, as the RL is the Legend in all other countries. And, the letters cant be mis-pronouced
