I've used wipes for both my boys from day one I made sure I used sensitive wipes, and have never had any problem at all! Perhaps avoid non sensitive and these new ones with aloe vera in, the aloe gave my son a terrible sore rash! Good luck I miss the baby days my youngest is 1 now and oldest is almost 3 so more in the midst of terrible 2 territory now! Take care Steph x

The midwife was just covering her backside for an allergic reaction, Ireland's got nothing to do with it, i had my kids in england, very 'on point' made sure i went to scans and such, my niece or nephew now on way where i live in Ireland and they really couldn't give a s**t, she's only had one scan so it really differentiates as to the area you come from, but to answer your question, there are so many different types of hypo-allergenic and sensitive that it really don't matter it's your preference ok, you'll get so many different opinions old fashioned and new you won't be able to decide. If you use them and your child gets a rash, common sense tells you stop using them and use warm water and cotton wool or baby lotion and cotton wool. It's your decision, your child do it your way.

Well, your baby's skin is a lot more sensitive and delicate than yours and mine. In the hospital they usually have several, and I mean several, wash cloths that they give you to use when you need to change a diaper. Soft cloth - warm water. Then they advise you to do that for up to 4 months. I did just that with my son because of the sensitive skin issue, with the addition to putting an ointment on after EVERY change, and he never experienced a rash. With my daughter however, she did not have as sensitive of skin and they told me after 2 months I could use the wipes. I did just that and again, never had an issue.
HOWEVER - on both of my children I used a baby wipe warmer!! Not fun sticking one of those to your tooshy if it isn't warm.
I think if you are ready to try the wipes yourself because of convenience, look for a brand that suits you and give it a whirl. If redness or rash appear - stop using them and go back to the wash cloth method. I know it's a hindrance sometimes but it sure beats a crabby baby with a sore toosh.

Just use the ones that aren't scented. That is usually the reason rashes form. Using wipes should be fine! Midwives are nuts.

HI, with all 3 of my children I used cotton wool and water for the first week. After that I swapped to wipes with no problems at all. If you want to be more careful just use sensitive ones. Good luck and don't worry!

They are fine at any age, unless your child has a skin condition. They used wipes on my newborn and gave me some to take home. Just use the ones that are unscented and for sensitive skin if you are worried about the chemicals.

I have used wipes with my kids from day 1 and it didn't bother them at all but they do make wipes for sensitive skin if you're worried about. It won't hurt him at all unless he has some allergy to something in the wipes.

what? thats odd. i used wipes from the day my daughter was born, and they are gentler than the type of cloths the hospital was using! if your baby has sensitive skin get the hypoallergenic ones with no scent added..
i use johnson's wipes.. they are soft, wet, and usually a bit cheaper than the huggies ones which are thicker but also um firmer/not as soft.

I used wipes on all four of my kids from the day they came into this world. I suggest using a softer wipe like huggies natural or something, and a soothing oil, to prevent any irritation.

wow for real , i have never herd of that
i have 23 nephews and neices, and except for 4 of them, i have changed all there very different little bottoms,
i will say use unscented, most people do, because some perfumes can be harsh on sensitive skin,
but again in all my life i have never heard of that, sorry to sound surprise, but gosh i am, i would rethink some of the advice the "midwife" gives to you, unless she is a sound doctor, or alergist
good luck and congradulations on your new addition
