hold down the 'menu' button and the center circle button until the iPod screen goes blank, then turn it on and it should go on again and work.
i've had to do this before to my iPod and a couple of my friend's iPods too. However, if this doesn't work i have no idea what's wrong w/ you iPod

The main reason this happens to the ipod is when people just unconnect them. If you just take the cord off of your ipod when it is charging, it will mess it up. I dont know if you do this but that is the main reason. In order to disconnect the ipod, go to the file Your Computer and you should see your ipod, right click on this icon and choose disconnect. After you see that the "Do Not Disconnect" sign is not showing on your ipod, it is safe to unhook it. Do this every time. Try doing this and see if it works, if not, you may have to re-format your ipod
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

i would try holding the middle button and menu at the same time for about five seconds or until the apple logo comes up
then plug it back into the computer
then when itunes comes up
click on your ipod icon and
then go to controls at the top and then "eject ipod"
good luck:)
this has happened to me before also
then i realized i wasnt ejecting properly which was causing freeze ups
never unplug your ipod when it says do not disconnect
unless you absolutly have to
properly eject it by doing the above steps minus the holding menu and center button..........

you could attempt the instruction manual reset it rather is carry down the two the middle button and the right of the clicking wheel on a similar time for 10 or 20 seconds. Now it rather is on no account labored for me yet.... have you ever tried connecting it on your pc? each so often I definitely have had solid luck with that. while it freezes I only plug it in, Itunes will open and then I close down Itunes and unplug it. That has labored for me countless instances. I definitely have a 30GB Video Ipod. solid luck.

To restart your iPod, hold down the center button and the play button at the same time for about ten seconds.
If that doesn't work, try the center button and the menu button. I forget which one it is.

its pretty easy,
1. Hold on
2. Hold off
3. hold menu (top button) and middle button at same time for 5 to 10 seconds
if that doesnt work try it once more

Either hold the top and middle button or whatever it is to restart it or let the batteries die and it'll fix itself.
