And I'm very sarcastic. [But it's all in good fun]

Midnite Sky ... That depends. If you do it to/with your friends and allow them to do it to you, then I guess this kind of mocking is all in fun.

But if someone does it while hiding behind the anonymity of a forum/user-ID, then it's just not right, of course. If someone gets into the habit of mocking people this way, some day they're going to "slip" and do it in a face-to-face situation. You can imagine what will happen.

Make sense?

Of course , it's in good fun for YOU!! But how do you feel when someone makes fun of you.... laughs at you... or giggles when you walk by. Is that fun for you, too? You don't know what heavy burden a person may be carrying when you decide to mock them. Maybe there has been a family tragedy .... the death of a pet... an illness that was just diagnosed. Do you want to make fun of those people?? Why ? Try putting yourself in someone else's shoes.

You're not the only one.
Right, so I think it's funny sometimes, though best not go overboard. Oh- and be sarcastic only when others are in a good mood. Or your caustic repartee could induce repercussions.

Depends on who you're mocking and the feeling behind it... for example...

Mocking people who are seen as inferior (such as the mentally handicapped, the physically handicapped, etc.) is usually only done by those who are seriously hurt and unsure of themselves. They need some outlook to make themselves feel like they're not in the worst possible situation, and pointing out the inferiorities of others makes them feel less weak. Generally, people who do this kind of mockery usually are those we would pity if we knew what's going on in their lives when they have to stoop this low.

If it's friends you mock (and they are, of course, allowed to mock you back) then the mockery becomes a form of bonding. A way to help each other look at your foibles in a comical light. However, you should be sure that you know whoever you mock like this (and vice versa) is all in good fun. Also to make sure to throw on compliments every now and then to make sure people don't feel only put down.

If it's just people who are different that you mock, the main reason people mock people who are different is out of fear. People more interested in security than freedom (and ironically, as a result, are less prepared to face things that threaten their security) are usually afraid of things that are different. The mockery is one way to try to put on a brave face in spite of their fear. However, such a tactic is dangerous, because it's more likely to make the things that are different more interested in the mocker's downfall. In other words, this type of mockery is generally a stupid choice and counter-productive to its purpose of promoting the mocker's security.

Another type of mockery is that targeted to famous people, people in power, etc. This type of mockery serves to bring people who have been put on a pedestal down to a more relate-able level in the eyes of the person doing the mocking. This type of mockery is more than tolerable, it's NEEDED. When a president, tyrant, pop star, or some other figure begins to take on larger-than-life status, people need to be reminded that those people are just as likely to be fumbling screw-ups and idiots as the rest of us. Otherwise, people won't watch for and attempt to correct the mistakes of those people.

Mocking someone is usually out of fear. If you put attention on someone else...then it's not on you and your lacking abilities or personality.

Sarcasm is a form of anger...be very careful. It can be very caustic and hurtful.

Having fun at someones expense is no fun at all...

could be your own insecurities getting the best of you. maybe the strike before struck mentality. sounds like you don't want to do this anymore, you can stop if you want to.

mocking or being sarcastic is not always a negative thing. sometimes i do it to my friends just to make them realize they are being ridiculous. the only thing about that is, it works both ways.

It's ok to express a little sarcasm, when it's appropriate. Just don't overdo it! When there's a time to be serious, be serious.
