I notice realtors and some articles refer to some towns as "bedroom communities."

What designates an area as a bedroom community ????

Usually a subdivision where the people who live there commute to a city to work. The subdivision has no industry or commerce, only homes

a Bedroom community is the suburbs. Where the parents travel into the city for a job. They live on the outskirts of town in a bedroom community . Usually the taxes are higher , but the kids don't have a steel mill down the street for example.

formerly known as suburbs. communities out side of metropolises where people would rather live and commute to work in the mega city. Thus, bedrooms are outside of city, hence bedroom community
