First of all, you should speak English very well if you choose to study English literature.

Secondly, if you like to read, analyze, write about and discuss what you read, then this is a great subject.

If you hate to read... especially if you hate to read older novels or plays (Shakespeare, Dickens, Austen) then you will have a horrible time.

I love to read and write, so English Literature was the major for me.

If you're good at reading and writing, then it's a fairly easy major. My university encouraged us to take a minor in addition.

If you love reading it's a great subject, however, there is a lot of reading and essay writing. You will get to read a whole range of genres, poetry, plays, novels, short stories, literary non fiction, modern writing, pre 1914.
Enjoy!
